Overview

Forty inches of swing puts the Fryer ET-40 at the top of the ET-LC large capacity lathes. It clears 40 in (1,016 mm) over the bed and 28 in (711 mm) over the cross slide, with a center height of 20 in (508 mm) and 18.5 in (470 mm) of cross slide travel. Everything else in Fryer's table is common with the ET-30, so the choice between the two is purely one of diameter.

That extra diameter is useful mainly for short, large work: flanges, wheels, valve bodies, bearing housings. The load figures do not rise with the swing. Supported part weight is 10,000 lb (4,536 kg) and unsupported weight 2,000 lb (907 kg), the same as the smaller machine, so a full-diameter part has to be thin or supported.

One option is reserved for this model. The 12" big bore option, listed for the ET-40 only, brings a 12” spindle bore on an A2-20 nose with a 50 HP motor and 400 RPM max. With a rear mounted chuck that turns the lathe into a machine for threading and facing the ends of large pipe. The standard bore is 4.10 in (104 mm).

In standard form the headstock has four ranges, Low 1 at 10 - 100 rpm through High at 675 - 1,500 rpm, driven by a 30 hp (22.4 kW) peak motor. The bed is 19 in (483 mm) wide with 2.00 in (51 mm) Z and 1.25 in (32 mm) X ballscrews. Weight starts at 15,000 lb (6,804 kg) with 60 in centers and reaches 25,000 lb (11,340 kg) with 200 in centers.
