Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Biglia B620 ASA 5" that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Biglia B620 ASA 5" is the small-spindle column of the B620 universal turning centre: 51 mm (2.0 in) bar capacity, a 250 mm (9.8 in) maximum machining diameter and a main spindle that runs to 5,000 rpm. Biglia builds the B620 in six versions, from a two-axis machine with CNC tailstock to the B620YS with driven tools, Y-axis and sub-spindle, and its table gives one column per spindle size instead of one per version. This page is the ASA 5" column.
What sets this spindle apart is speed, not muscle. Motor power is 17 - 25 kW (22.8 - 33.5 hp) and torque 108 - 159 Nm, with a 59.5 mm bore and 165 / 210 mm chucks. Those are the same ratings the table gives for the sub-spindle, so on a B620SM or B620YS with this main spindle both ends of the part are cut with matching power. The B620 ASA 6" column, by comparison, lists 30 - 40 kW and 286 Nm at 4,500 rpm, and a 360 mm machining diameter.
Everything else is common to the three columns. Machining length is 620 mm (24.4 in), swing 700 mm, X travel 180 mm and Z travel 620 mm, with rapids of 18 m/min on X and 30 m/min on Z. The 15-station servo turret indexes one position in 0.15 sec. On versions with driven tools all 15 stations are live, at 6,000 - 10,000 rpm, 11 - 12.5 kW and 30 - 34.5 Nm, and the Y-axis versions add +45 / -45 mm of Y.
Biglia lists the weight at 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) with swarf conveyor, the lightest of the three, and the control as FANUC i-HMI with a 15" touch screen.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Fastest main spindle of the three B620 columns at 5,000 rpm, against 4,500 rpm for ASA 6" and 3,200 rpm for ASA 8"
- Main spindle and sub-spindle share one rating: 17 - 25 kW, 108 - 159 Nm, 5,000 rpm and an ASA 5" nose
- 15-station servo turret indexing in 0.15 sec per position, with every station able to carry a live tool on the M, SM, Y and YS versions
- CNC tailstock on a servo-driven B-axis with 620 mm of stroke, so position and thrust are programmed
- Rapids of 30 m/min on Z and 18 m/min on X and Y
Limitations
- Bar capacity stops at 51 mm (2.0 in) and machining diameter at 250 mm; the other two B620 columns reach 360 mm
- Torque tops out at 159 Nm, well under the 286 Nm of the B620 ASA 6" spindle, so heavy roughing in steel takes more passes
- Driven tools, C-axis, Y-axis and sub-spindle depend on the version ordered; the base B620 is a two-axis lathe with tailstock
- Y travel on the Y versions is +45 / -45 mm, which keeps off-centre milling to small features

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Bar capacity, diameter, speed and torque. The ASA 5" spindle takes 51 mm bar, machines up to 250 mm and runs to 5,000 rpm with 108 - 159 Nm. The B620 ASA 6" takes 70 mm bar at 4,500 rpm with 286 Nm, and the B620 ASA 8" takes 80 mm bar at 3,200 rpm with 398 - 700 Nm. Machining length, travels, turret and tailstock are the same for all three.
02
Biglia lists six versions: B620 (two axes with CNC automatic tailstock), B620M (15 rotary tools and C-axis), B620S (synchronized sub-spindle), B620SM, B620Y and B620YS. The YS combines rotary tools, C-axis on the main spindle, Y-axis and a second spindle with C-axis. The specification table covers them all in one column per spindle size, so confirm with Biglia which rows apply to the version you want.
03
On the versions with rotary tools, all 15 turret stations can be driven. The table gives 6,000 - 10,000 rpm, 11 - 12.5 kW (14.8 - 16.8 hp) and 30 - 34.5 Nm for the live tooling, and the turret indexes one position in 0.15 sec. Biglia describes the drive as direct, from the servo turret to the driven tool.
04
The brochure names the control as CNC FANUC i-HMI with a 15" colour touch screen and QWERTY keyboard. The tailstock body is moved by a servo motor and ballscrew on the B-axis, with 620 mm of stroke, so its position and thrust are set from the program. The table lists Morse taper MT 5 and 4.
