Overview
Five metres is the end of the line for the VP-HS series. The AWEA VP-5012HS has 5,000 mm (196.9 in) of X travel, a 5,000 x 1,100 mm (196.9 x 43.3 in) table and the highest load rating of the five models at 8,000 kg (17,637 lb). It also weighs the most: 28,000 kg (61,728 lb).
Think of it as a long-bed machine that happens to carry a fast spindle. The head is the series unit, direct-driven to 10,000 rpm with a BBT50 taper and 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp), yet the X axis that feeds work under it is limited to 8 m/min (315 ipm) for both rapid and cutting feed. Y at 24 m/min (945 ipm) moves three times as fast. Toolpaths should be planned around that: long passes down the bed, stepovers in Y, and as few end-to-end returns as the part allows.
Tolerances are the widest in the range. By VDI the machine lists P ≤ 0.04 mm positioning over full travel and Ps ≤ 0.03 mm repeatability, against P ≤ 0.03 mm and Ps ≤ 0.02 mm for the VP-4012HS. Shops finishing mold surfaces to tight limits will usually be better served by a shorter model. This one earns its place on parts that cannot be cut anywhere smaller.
The cross section is no bigger than on the VP-1612HS at the short end of the series. Y travel is 1,200 mm (47.2 in), Z is 760 mm (29.9 in), and the columns are 1,300 mm (51.2 in) apart. Work that is wide as well as long does not fit this series at any length. The plain VP range does continue past this length with the VP-6012, at 6,000 mm (236.2 in).

The VDI rows widen with every size step above the VP-3012HS; the JIS rows are printed the same for all five models.
