How much does the AWEA VP-2012HSS cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AWEA VP-2012HSS that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Among AWEA's three HSS bridge machines, the VP-2012HSS is the small one and the quick one. Travels are 2,000 mm (78.7") in X, 1,200 mm (47.2") in Y and 760 mm (30.0") in Z, with 1,300 mm (51.2") between the columns and a BT 40 spindle listed at 10 ~ 15,000 rpm.
Two rows separate it from the larger SP-2016HSS and SP-3016HSS. Z rapid is 20,000 mm/min (787.4 IPM), matching X and Y, where both SP machines drop to 15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM) in Z. Positioning accuracy is given as ± 0.004 mm (± 0.0002") over full travel, against ± 0.01 mm (± 0.0004") for the SP-2016HSS and SP-3016HSS. Repeatability is ± 0.003 mm (± 0.0001") on all three. For finishing mold surfaces with many short retracts, those two rows are the reason to stay with the smaller frame whenever the part fits.
The working envelope is that of the gear-spindle VP-2012: identical travels and column spacing, and a 2,000 x 1,100 mm (78.7" x 43.3") table with a 3,500 kg (7,700 lb) rating. What changes is the head. The VP-2012 turns a BT50 tool at 6,000 rpm and accepts tools of 15 kg (33 lb). Here the limit is 7 kg (15 lb) per tool, 300 mm (11.8") in length and 102 / 127 mm (4" / 5") in diameter. Between them sits the VP-2012HS, whose direct-driven spindle reaches 10,000 rpm.
Motor output is 18.5 / 22 kW (25 / 30 HP) and the cutting feed range is 10 ~ 15,000 mm/min (0.4 ~ 590.6 IPM). The magazine holds 32 tools and a change takes 12 sec., slow next to the feed rates, so programs with long runs per cutter suit it better than ones that swap tools constantly. The machine is 5,800 mm (228") long and 3,655 mm (144") high. AWEA's table for this model gives no weight, power or air figures; ask for them before the foundation is planned.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Z rapid of 20,000 mm/min (787.4 IPM), the only HSS model whose Z matches its X and Y rapids
- Positioning accuracy of ± 0.004 mm (± 0.0002") over full travel, tighter than the ± 0.01 mm (± 0.0004") of the SP-2016HSS
- Spindle range of 10 ~ 15,000 rpm, against 6,000 rpm on the VP-2012 with the same travels
- Shortest HSS machine at 5,800 mm (228") long and 3,655 mm (144") high
- Cutting feed up to 15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM)
Limitations
- Tools are limited to 7 kg (15 lb); the VP-2012 accepts 15 kg (33 lb)
- BT 40 taper only in the table, where the VP-2012 and VP-2012HS use 50-taper tooling
- Tool change time of 12 sec.
- 1,200 mm (47.2") of Y and 1,300 mm (51.2") between columns; the SP-2016HSS has 1,600 mm (63.0") and 1,700 mm (66.9")
- The specification table lists no machine weight, power or air requirement

Frequently Asked Questions
01
All three share 2,000 mm of X, 1,200 mm of Y and 760 mm of Z. The VP-2012 has a gear spindle at 6,000 rpm on BT50. The VP-2012HS has a direct-driven spindle at 10,000 rpm with a 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) motor on BBT50. The VP-2012HSS runs 10 ~ 15,000 rpm on BT 40 with 18.5 / 22 kW (25 / 30 HP). Tool weight is limited to 7 kg (15 lb) on the VP-2012HSS and 15 kg (33 lb) on the VP-2012.
02
If the part fits, the smaller machine is listed with better figures in two places. Its Z rapid is 20,000 mm/min (787.4 IPM) and its positioning accuracy ± 0.004 mm (± 0.0002"); the SP-2016HSS shows 15,000 mm/min (590.6 IPM) and ± 0.01 mm (± 0.0004") in those rows. The VP-2012HSS is also shorter, 5,800 mm (228") against 6,690 mm (264") for the SP-2016HSS. The SP-2016HSS answers with 1,600 mm (63.0") of Y and an 8,000 kg (17,600 lb) table.
03
The distance from spindle nose to table is 160 ~ 920 mm (6.3" ~ 36.2") and Z travel is 760 mm (30.0"). Tool length up to 300 mm (11.8") has to be taken out of that clearance, so a deep cavity in a tall block should be checked against both figures before the job is committed.
04
The magazine holds 32 tools and the listed tool change time is 12 sec. Maximum tool diameter is 102 / 127 mm (4" / 5"), maximum length 300 mm (11.8") and maximum weight 7 kg (15 lb). The table shows no optional magazine sizes for this model.
