How much does the AWEA LP-4021 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AWEA LP-4021 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The AWEA LP-4021 is a bridge type machining center with 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of X travel, 2,100 mm (82.7 in) of Y and 760 mm (29.9 in) of Z, working over a 4,020 x 2,010 mm (158.3 x 79.1 in) table that carries 12,000 kg (26,455 lb). What separates one LP-4021 from the next is mostly the spindle it was ordered with.
The standard head runs to 6,000 rpm on a 22 / 26 kW (30 / 35 HP) motor. AWEA describes its 6,000 rpm high torque spindle as delivering a maximum of 642 N-m at 387 rpm through a 2-speed gear box. For heavier cutting there is a 4,000 rpm gear spindle with the same 26 kW motor and 977 N-m at 254 rpm. A 5,000 rpm gear spindle is in the table as well, without a torque figure.
Two faster families follow. The built-in motorized spindle comes in 6,000 and 8,000 rpm versions with a maximum of 600 N-m at 350 rpm. The direct drive spindle comes in 8,000 and 10,000 rpm versions with 165 N-m at 1,500 rpm. That last torque figure is a fraction of the gear spindle's, so direct drive is the finishing and light-alloy choice and not a head for a large face mill in steel. With it, Z can be built on roller type linear guide ways instead of the box way.
Whatever the spindle, the taper is BT50 (ISO50) or optional DIN69871-A, and all three axes rapid at 15,000 mm/min (591 ipm). Positioning under VDI is P ≤ 0.030 mm over full travel. The machine weighs 37,500 kg (82,672 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Choice of gear, built-in and direct drive spindles, from 4,000 rpm to 10,000 rpm
- The optional 4,000 rpm gear spindle is stated at 977 N-m at 254 rpm
- 4,020 x 2,010 mm (158.3 x 79.1 in) table with a 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) rating
- Symmetrical head with a floating hydraulic tool release that spares the spindle bearing
- Y travel of 2,100 mm (82.7 in), extendable to 2,500 mm as an option
Limitations
- Every spindle other than the 6,000 rpm standard unit is an option
- The direct drive spindles are stated at 165 N-m, far below the gear spindles
- X rapid of 15,000 mm/min (591 ipm), where the LP-3021 has 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm)
- The 5,000 rpm gear spindle has no published torque figure

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The gear spindles. AWEA states 642 N-m at 387 rpm for the 6,000 rpm high torque spindle and 977 N-m at 254 rpm for the 4,000 rpm version, both with a 26 kW motor and a 2-speed gear box. The 6,000 rpm figure in the table is the standard specification; the 4,000 rpm unit is listed as an option.
02
A direct drive spindle of 10,000 rpm, with an 8,000 rpm version alongside it. AWEA gives a maximum of 165 N-m at 1,500 rpm for the direct drive design and says it separates motor heat from the spindle to reduce deformation. Built-in motorized spindles of 6,000 and 8,000 rpm sit in between, at up to 600 N-m at 350 rpm.
03
It can. The Z axis is a hardened and ground box way as standard. AWEA notes that Z can be built with roller type linear guide ways if the machine is equipped with a high speed direct drive spindle. The spindle row of the table also lists the gear 4,000 / 5,000 rpm options together with the 1,000 / 1,200 / 1,400 mm Z strokes.
04
The LP-4025 is the wider and heavier machine: 2,500 mm (98.4 in) of Y as standard, a 4,020 x 2,400 mm (158.3 x 94.5 in) table, a 15,000 kg (33,069 lb) load and a weight of 40,000 kg (88,183 lb). The LP-4021 has 2,100 mm (82.7 in) of Y, carries 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) and weighs 37,500 kg (82,672 lb). Both have 4,000 mm of X and a 15,000 mm/min X rapid.
05
32 as standard, with 60, 90 or 120 as options. A tool may be Ø127 mm (Ø5.0 in) in diameter, or Ø215 mm (Ø8.5 in) with empty neighbouring pockets, up to 350 mm (13.8 in) long and up to 20 kg (44 lb).
