How much does the AWEA VP-2012HS cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AWEA VP-2012HS that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Two metres of X is where AWEA's bridge range gets crowded, and the VP-2012HS is the direct-drive entry in that group. It pairs 2,000 x 1,200 x 760 mm (78.7 x 47.2 x 29.9 in) of travel with a 10,000 rpm spindle, a BBT50 taper and a 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) motor. The table is 2,000 x 1,100 mm (78.7 x 43.3 in), rated for 3,500 kg (7,716 lb).
Three other AWEA machines cover the same travels. The VP-2012 turns a gear spindle at 6,000 rpm with 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp). The HD-2012 keeps 6,000 rpm but puts the full 22 / 26 kW through a gearbox, uses box ways on Z and lifts the table rating to 4,500 kg (9,921 lb) on an 18,500 kg (40,785 lb) machine. The VP-2012HSS goes the other way, to 15,000 rpm on a BT 40 taper with an 18.5 / 22 kW (25 / 30 HP) motor and a 7 kg (15 lb) tool limit.
So where does the HS fit? It holds a BBT50 tool of up to 15 kg (33 lb) and spins it faster than either gear machine, which suits semi-finishing and finishing of die steel with mid-size cutters. Roughing torque is the gear models' territory. Very small tools at high surface speed belong to the HSS.
Nothing about the size slows the axes. X and Y both traverse at 24 m/min (945 ipm), Z at 20 m/min (787 ipm), and the cutting feed limit is 12 m/min (472 ipm). The machine weighs 16,000 kg (35,273 lb). AWEA lists positioning by the JIS method as ± 0.010 mm over full travel with ± 0.003 mm repeatability, and says the bridge and base contact surfaces are precision hand scraped.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 10,000 rpm on a BBT50 taper, against 6,000 rpm for both the VP-2012 and the HD-2012
- 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) spindle motor, the same rating the HD-2012 carries
- X and Y rapids of 24 m/min (945 ipm) with no reduction for bed length
- Repeatability of ± 0.003 mm by the JIS method
- Takes 15 kg (33 lb) tools, where the 15,000 rpm VP-2012HSS stops at 7 kg (15 lb)
Limitations
- Table rating of 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) trails the 4,500 kg (9,921 lb) of the HD-2012
- No gearbox: buyers who rough at low rpm should look at the gear spindle siblings
- Top speed of 10,000 rpm sits below the 15,000 rpm of the VP-2012HSS
- A 32 T magazine is standard; 40 T has to be specified

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The HD-2012, whose gear spindle tops out at 6,000 rpm, whose Z runs on box ways and whose table takes 4,500 kg (9,921 lb). The VP-2012HS is built for speed instead: a direct-driven 10,000 rpm spindle, roller type linear guide ways on all three axes and a 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) table. Both machines list a 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) spindle motor.
02
Taper and speed. The VP-2012HS uses BBT50 at 10,000 rpm and accepts tools up to 15 kg (33 lb). The VP-2012HSS uses BT 40 at up to 15,000 rpm, limits tools to 7 kg (15 lb) and lists positioning of ± 0.004 mm (± 0.0002") over full travel. Travels on X and Y are identical.
03
AWEA prints two sets of figures. In the JIS rows, positioning is ± 0.010 mm over full travel and repeatability is ± 0.003 mm. In the VDI rows, positioning is P ≤ 0.02 mm over full travel and repeatability is Ps ≤ 0.015 mm. The two standards measure differently, so compare like with like when reading another machine's sheet.
04
No. According to AWEA, the servo motor and strengthened ball screw make a counter balance system unnecessary on Z, and the maker credits that layout with better dynamic response. Z travel is 760 mm (29.9 in) at a rapid of 20 m/min (787 ipm).
05
Yes, as an option. BBT50 is the taper in the specification table, with BBT40 marked Opt. AWEA's spindle description for the series gives direct-driven speeds of 8,000 ~ 15,000 rpm and built-in motorized speeds of 12,000 ~ 20,000 rpm, so the taper and the speed are chosen together when ordering.
