Overview

Among the wide-frame HTP machines, the AWEA HTP-6041 is the first to reach the series' top table rating: 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) on a 6,020 x 3,000 mm (237.0 x 118.1 in) table, with 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X travel and 4,300 mm (169.3 in) between the columns. It weighs 53,000 kg (116,843 lb).

Big work means big tooling, and the tool rows set firm limits. Each tool may weigh 20 kg (44 lb) and measure 350 mm (13.8 in) in length, with "Opt. 400" printed beside the length. Diameter is given as Ø127 / Ø215 mm (Ø5.0 / Ø8.5 in). The magazine holds 32 T as delivered; 40, 60, 90 and 120 are the listed alternatives. A face mill or boring bar beyond those limits has to be loaded by hand, which on a machine with 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z travel is worth planning for.

The spindle that drives those tools is a gear head type rated 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) at up to 4,000 rpm, with a BBT50 (ISO 50) nose. AWEA points to a short transmission shaft in the gear head as the reason it suits heavy cutting.

Expect unhurried axis motion. All three rapids are 10 m/min (394 ipm) and cutting feed is 1 ~ 5 m/min (39 ~ 197 ipm). Accuracy under VDI is P ≤ 0.050 mm over full travel with Ps ≤ 0.035 mm.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) table load with 4,300 mm (169.3 in) between the columns
  • 32 T magazine as standard, with 40 / 60 / 90 / 120 as options
  • Tools up to 20 kg (44 lb) and Ø127 / Ø215 mm (Ø5.0 / Ø8.5 in)
  • Gear head spindle with a short, highly rigid transmission shaft and BBT50 (ISO 50) dual contact taper
  • 53,000 kg (116,843 lb), against 64,000 kg (141,093 lb) for the HTP-7041 with the same table load

Limitations

  • Standard tool length is 350 mm (13.8 in), short for deep boring under 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z
  • P ≤ 0.050 mm and Ps ≤ 0.035 mm under VDI, the widest figures of the series
  • Rapids of 10 m/min (394 ipm) on X, Y and Z
  • Y travel is listed only as "Opt.4,100 mm (4,800)"

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the tool limits of the HTP-6041?

Maximum tool weight is 20 kg (44 lb). Maximum length is 350 mm (13.8 in), with "Opt. 400" in the table. Maximum diameter is printed as Ø127 / Ø215 mm (Ø5.0 / Ø8.5 in); the table does not label the two values, so check with AWEA which pocket conditions each applies to.

02 How many tools can the HTP-6041 carry?

The standard magazine holds 32 tools. AWEA lists 40T / 60T / 90T / 120T magazines as optional. If the machine is ordered with the vertical / horizontal ATC system, tools can be changed in both head positions; that system is an option too.

03 How does the HTP-6041 compare with the HTP-6033?

The table, 6,020 x 3,000 mm (237.0 x 118.1 in), and its 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) rating are the same. The HTP-6041 has 4,300 mm (169.3 in) between the columns, 10 m/min (394 ipm) Y and Z rapids, a 1,300 liter coolant tank and weighs 53,000 kg (116,843 lb). The HTP-6033 has 3,500 mm (137.8 in), 12 m/min (472 ipm), 1,050 liter and 51,000 kg (112,434 lb).

04 What does BBT50 mean on the HTP-6041?

It is the dual contact form of the 50 taper. AWEA explains that the BBT spindle keeps both the taper and the face in contact with the tool holder, which stiffens the joint for heavy cutting. The table gives the taper as BBT50 (ISO 50).
