Overview

Fryer builds two 30 in vertical machining centers, and the MC-30L is the fast one. It has 30 x 22 x 21 in (762 x 559 x 533 mm) of travel on roller type linear ways, a 10,000 rpm Big Plus CAT 40 spindle and rapids of 1,450 ipm (36.8 m/min). Its box way counterpart, the MC-30B, has 18 in (457 mm) of Y, an 8,500 rpm spindle and weighs 9,900 lb (4,491 kg) against 8,400 lb (3,810 kg) here.

The comparison shows what each is for. The MC-30B puts 30 hp (22.4 kW) and 155 ft-lb (210 Nm) behind box ways for heavy cuts. The MC-30L has a 20 hp (14.9 kW) peak inline motor with 100 ft-lb (136 Nm) at 350 rpm, a 30 station tool changer that swaps in 1.5 seconds and a cutting feed rate up to 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min). It suits parts where metal comes off in many light, fast passes.

Y travel is unusually generous for the X. With 22 in (559 mm) of Y over a 22 x 38 in (559 x 965 mm) table, fixtures can be loaded two deep, or a trunnion table can sit crosswise with room to swing. The table takes 2,500 lb (1,134 kg) and has 5 T-slots.

For installation, allow 100 x 86 in (2,540 x 2,184 mm) of floor and 109 in (2,769 mm) of height. The table top is 37 in (940 mm) from the floor and the door opens 36 in (914 mm).
