Price estimate
We do not have a price for the ROMI D 1500 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The ROMI D 1500 is a large-table vertical machining center sold apart from the lighter D 600 to D 1250 line: 1,530 mm (60 in) of X travel, 760 mm (30 in) in both Y and Z, a 1,700 x 750 mm (67 x 30 in) table and a 1,800 kg (4,000 lbs) load rating. At 13,000 kg (28,700 lbs) it weighs nearly twice as much as a D 1250.
The spindle can be ordered with a 50-taper as well as a 40-taper. The ISO 50 headstock runs from 6 to 6,000 rpm through a ZF reduction gearbox and delivers 494 Nm (364 lb-ft), four times what the 10,000 rpm ISO 40 head gives. Buyers who prefer speed can take ISO 40 at 8,000, 10,000 or 12,000 rpm, with 154 Nm (114 lb-ft), 124 Nm (91 lb-ft) and 103 Nm (76 lb-ft). Every version uses the same 30 hp / 22 kW motor.
The taper choice carries the tool changer with it. ISO 40 machines have 30 pockets for tools up to 75 mm (2.9 in) in diameter and 7 kg (15 lbs). ISO 50 machines have 24 pockets for tools up to 105 mm (4.1 in), 350 mm (13.8 in) long and 15 kg (33 lbs), the kind of face mills and boring bars the gearbox is there to drive. Maximum programmable cutting feed is also different: 30 m/min (1,181 in/min) with ISO 40 and 20 m/min (787 in/min) with ISO 50.
The lower table rides on four linear guides, which is how Romi gets the load rating, and the upper table has 7 T-slots. Rapids are 30 m/min (1,181 in/min) on all three axes. Clearance from spindle nose to table runs from 150 to 910 mm (5.9 to 36 in). A 4th-axis indexing table is optional. The CNC is a Siemens Sinumerik 828D and the installation needs 45 kVA.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
ISO 50 comes with a 6 to 6,000 rpm headstock and ZF reduction gearbox giving 494 Nm (364 lb-ft), a 24-tool changer and tools up to 15 kg (33 lbs). ISO 40 comes at 8,000, 10,000 or 12,000 rpm, with 30 tools up to 7 kg (15 lbs). Heavy steel roughing points to ISO 50; lighter, faster work to ISO 40.
02
X travel is 1,530 mm (60 in), Y travel 760 mm (30 in) and Z travel 760 mm (30 in). The table surface is 1,700 x 750 mm (67 x 30 in) with 7 T-slots, and the distance from spindle nose to table is 150 to 910 mm (5.9 to 36 in).
03
Up to 1,800 kg (4,000 lbs), uniformly distributed. Romi attributes this to the lower table being supported on four linear guides. The machine itself has a net weight of 13,000 kg (28,700 lbs), so check floor loading as well.
04
The specification table lists a Siemens 828D. Elsewhere in the same catalogue Romi says D Series vertical machining centers can be equipped with Fanuc 0i-MD or Siemens Sinumerik 828D, so confirm the control offered in your market.
