Overview

The Hartford SW-526 is the wide five-metre SW: a box-guideway double-column machining center with 5,000 mm (196.9 in) of X travel, 2,600 mm (102.4 in) of Y and a 5,000 x 2,500 mm (196.9 x 98.4 in) table that carries 15,000 kg (33,069 lb).

Under that table Hartford lists 4 box guideways on the base. More ways under a wide table spread the load and stop the table edges from deflecting when a heavy part sits off-centre or a cut is taken near the side. Both the X and the Y ballscrews are supported on this model.

How fast does the spindle turn? In gear form, 4,000 / 6,000 rpm. In DDS form, 10,000 / 12,000 rpm. Both are #50, and the motor can be 15/18.5 kW, 18.5/22 kW, 22/26 kW or 30/37 kW, the first being the base rating (Cont. / 30 min). Hartford states spindle run-out within 5μm.

The Z ram travels 780 mm, or 1,070 mm when the option is ordered, and its square guide is credited with a 50 % cut in cutting vibration. Tool storage is an S type listed as S: 20, or an arm type with 32 tools, or 40.
