Overview

The AWEA BM-1800 MAX stretches the 800 mm-class BM frame to 1,800 mm (70.9 in) of X travel. Y and Z are both 800 mm (31.5 in). It is the longest BM that still uses the 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) gear spindle and the 900 mm (35.4 in) column reach; the next model, the BM-2100 MAX, moves to a wider frame and a larger motor.

Its table is listed at 2,000 x 800 mm (78.7 x 31.5 in), which is longer than the X travel. That is normal on long C-frame machines, and it means the ends of a full-length part cannot be reached by the spindle centerline. Plan clamping at the table ends and machining inside the stroke. The rating is 2,200 kg (4,850 lb).

At 17,000 kg (37,478 lb) the machine needs 40 kVA, a step above the 35 kVA of the BM-1600 MAX, while spindle, feeds and tooling stay as they are on that model: BT50 standard with BT40 optional, 6,000 rpm through a two-step gear box, 20 m/min (787 ipm) rapids in X and Y, 18 m/min (709 ipm) in Z, and a 24-tool magazine for tools up to 15 kg (33 lb).

Who needs it? Shops machining long die shoes, press plates, machine bases and similar parts that are heavy and long but not wide. For those, a C-frame box-way machine keeps the table open at the front and sides for crane loading. AWEA lists positioning accuracy of 0.008 mm and repeatability of 0.006 mm, and a 620 liter coolant tank.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,800 mm (70.9 in) of X travel with 800 mm (31.5 in) in Y and Z
  • 2,000 x 800 mm (78.7 x 31.5 in) table rated for 2,200 kg (4,850 lb)
  • BT50 gear spindle, 6,000 rpm, with the option of BT40
  • 17,000 kg (37,478 lb) box-way machine with an open C-frame table for crane loading
  • Spindle nose to table distance of 200 ~ 1,000 mm (7.9 ~ 39.4 in)

Limitations

  • Table is longer than the X travel, so the full table length cannot be machined in one setup
  • Spindle motor remains 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) despite the larger table
  • Needs a 40 kVA supply, more than the 35 kVA of the BM-1600 MAX
  • Rapids of 20 m/min (787 ipm) and a 1 - 12 m/min (39 - 472 ipm) cutting feed range

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How long a part can the AWEA BM-1800 MAX machine?

X travel is 1,800 mm (70.9 in). The table itself is 2,000 x 800 mm (78.7 x 31.5 in), so it can hold a longer part than the spindle can cover in one setup. Y and Z travel are each 800 mm (31.5 in), and the table carries 2,200 kg (4,850 lb).

02 What is the difference between the BM-1800 MAX and the BM-2100 MAX?

The BM-2100 MAX is built on a larger frame: 2,100 mm (82.7 in) of X, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Y and Z, a 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) spindle motor, a 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) table and 15 m/min (591 ipm) rapids. The BM-1800 MAX has 800 mm (31.5 in) of Y and Z, an 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) motor and 20 m/min (787 ipm) rapids.

03 Which spindle tapers are offered on the BM-1800 MAX?

BT50 is standard and BT40 optional, according to both the specification table and AWEA's spindle taper chart for the series. The listed spindle is a gear spindle with a top speed of 6,000 rpm.

04 What installation data does AWEA give for the BM-1800 MAX?

Machine weight 17,000 kg (37,478 lb), power requirement 40 kVA, pneumatic pressure 6 kg/cm² and a coolant tank of 620 liter. Chips are cleared by three screw type augers on this size, with a chain type chip conveyor available as an option.
