Overview

At 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X travel, the AWEA MVP-6032 is the first size in the MVP five-face range to get two things: the 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) table rating and a vibration damping mechanism on the X-axis ball screw. AWEA applies that mechanism to models of 6 m travel and above only. A screw this long is prone to whip and vibration, and the maker's stated aim is to keep cutting accuracy over the full travel.

Y travel is 3,200 mm (126.0 in), the table measures 6,020 x 2,400 mm (237.0 x 94.5 in), and the columns are 2,700 mm (106.3 in) apart. If the part is wider, the MVP-6040 has the same X on 3,500 mm (137.8 in) columns.

The moving cross rail is what separates this series from a fixed-rail bridge mill. It rides on box ways through 1,250 mm (49.2 in) of W travel, balanced by a double hydraulic cylinder, and can be locked wherever it stops. Under it, the Z ram has 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of stroke as standard, with 1,200 or 1,400 mm optional. Short tools can therefore work close to the rail on a low part, and the rail lifts clear for a tall one.

X rapid is 10 m/min (394 ipm), the same as the MVP-5032, so nothing is lost in positioning speed for the added length. Listed accuracy under VDI is P = 0.035 mm over full travel with P = 0.026 mm repeatability. Weight is 80,000 kg (176,367 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Shortest MVP with the 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) table load
  • X-axis ball screw vibration damping mechanism, fitted from this length upward
  • X rapid holds at 10 m/min (394 ipm), where the MVP-7032 drops to 7.5 m/min (295 ipm)
  • Cross rail balanced by a double hydraulic cylinder and locked in any position over 1,250 mm (49.2 in) of W travel
  • Z travel of 1,000 mm (39.4 in) with 1,200 and 1,400 mm options

Limitations

  • VDI positioning accuracy of P = 0.035 mm over full travel, wider than the P = 0.025 mm of the MVP-4032
  • Y travel of 3,200 mm (126.0 in) and 2,700 mm (106.3 in) between columns; the MVP-6040 gives 4,000 mm (157.5 in) and 3,500 mm (137.8 in)
  • W-axis rapid is 3 m/min (118 ipm), so repositioning the cross rail is a slow move
  • 80,000 kg (176,367 lb) of machine weight to plan the foundation around

Best For

Long machine beds and structural parts up to 6,000 mm in one setup Loads up to 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) without going to a longer bed Mixed tall and low workpieces, using the 1,250 mm (49.2 in) W axis Five-face work on parts that fit a 2,400 mm (94.5 in) wide table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Why does the MVP-6032 have a damped X-axis ball screw when the MVP-5032 does not?

AWEA states that the X-axis ball screw is equipped with a vibration damping mechanism on 6 m travel and above models only. The MVP-6032 has 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X travel and is the shortest machine it applies to. The maker's stated purpose is to remove vibration and distortion and keep accuracy over the full travel.

02 What is the W axis for?

W is the vertical movement of the whole cross rail: 1,250 mm (49.2 in) at 3 m/min (118 ipm) on box ways. It sets the working height of the head, and the 1,000 mm (39.4 in) Z ram then does the cutting strokes. The table lists the spindle nose to table distance as 200 ~ 2,450 mm. AWEA locks the rail with 6 pcs. of hydraulic locking mechanism.

03 MVP-6032 or MVP-7032?

Both are rated for 20,000 kg (44,092 lb). The MVP-7032 has 7,000 mm (275.6 in) of X travel but its X rapid is 7.5 m/min (295 ipm) and its VDI positioning accuracy is P = 0.040 mm. The MVP-6032 rapids at 10 m/min (394 ipm) with P = 0.035 mm. If the work fits 6,000 mm (236.2 in), the shorter machine is the quicker and tighter one on paper.

04 What does the MVP-6032 need from the building?

The table lists AC 220 three-phase power at 80 KVA and compressed air at 5 ~ 8 kg/cm². The machine weighs 80,000 kg (176,367 lb). Tank capacities are 750 L for coolant, 290 L for hydraulics and 6 L for lubrication.
