Overview

The Zayer THERA is the large gantry of the range, a moving bridge over a fixed table with a fixed cross beam. Its cross travel starts at 3,750 mm (147.6 in) and can be ordered at 4,250, 4,750, 5,250 or 5,750 mm (167.3, 187.0, 206.7 or 226.4 in).

X travel is listed from 3,000 and 4,000 mm to 20,000 mm (787.4 in) and beyond, on tables from 3,500 mm to 20,500 mm (807.1 in). Z is 1,250 mm (49.2 in), with 1,500, 1,750 or 2,000 mm (59.1, 68.9 or 78.7 in) optional. The columns stand 3,000 mm (118.1 in) apart in the base machine and up to 5,000 mm (196.9 in) with options. Table loading is given per area, 15,000 kg/m², which is how a fixed-table machine for very large parts has to be rated.

Drives are split by job. The long axis is a rack with double motor and pinion with a rapid feed of 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm). The cross axis is also a double-motor rack and pinion, and together with the twin ball screw vertical axis it reaches 50,000 mm/min (1,969 ipm) rapid feed, with a 45,000 mm/min (1,772 ipm) working feed. Zayer describes the vertical drive as a double ball screw with double compensation, symmetric for thermal stability, running in box in box guideways.

Power is 43 kW (57.7 hp), or 60 kW (80.5 hp) as an option, and the spindle head speed is 6,000 rpm. Faster work needs one of the optional electrospindle heads, of which three are listed. Change of heads is standard, and ten heads appear in the accessory table. The magazine starts at 30 tools and the option list runs to 120 and beyond. Machine weight is about 30,000 to 150,000 kg (66,138 to 330,688 lb). Zayer points to pendulum work, and to rotating tables and turning options, as ways to configure the machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How wide a part can the Zayer THERA machine?

Standard cross travel is 3,750 mm (147.6 in) with 3,000 mm (118.1 in) between columns. Options take the cross travel to 4,250, 4,750, 5,250 or 5,750 mm (167.3, 187.0, 206.7 or 226.4 in) and the column spacing to 3,500, 4,000, 4,500 or 5,000 mm (137.8, 157.5, 177.2 or 196.9 in).

02 What load can the THERA table take?

Zayer rates it per area: 15,000 kg/m². The table is fixed, 2,000 mm (78.7 in) wide as standard and 3,000 or 4,000 mm (118.1 or 157.5 in) wide as options, in lengths from 3,500 mm to 20,500 mm (807.1 in) and beyond.

03 How does the THERA compare with the ALTEA?

Both are fixed-table gantries with X travel to 20,000 mm (787.4 in) and beyond. The THERA is the larger and stronger machine: 43 kW (57.7 hp) against the ALTEA's 30 kW (40.2 hp) high torque rating, Y options to 5,750 mm (226.4 in), Z options to 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and change of heads as standard.
