Overview

Tall work on a short table is the case for the AWEA LP-3025YZF. It gives 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z travel and 200 ~ 1,200 mm (7.9 ~ 47.2 in) from spindle nose to table top, on a 5-face bridge machine with only 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of X. The LP-3025YF, its lower sibling, stops at 760 mm (29.9 in) of Z and 200 ~ 960 mm (7.9 ~ 37.8 in).

The extra height matters twice on a 5-face machine. A tall part needs it, plainly. And a milling head hanging under the ram uses up part of the daylight before any cutting starts, so a longer Z keeps more of the envelope usable once the horizontal head is on.

AWEA changes the spindle with the Z stroke. Standard here is the 4,000 rpm high torque spindle, which the maker rates at 977 N-m at 254 rpm from the 26 kW motor through a 2-speed gear box. That is a roughing spindle for large face mills and boring bars in BT50. If the work is lighter and faster, built-in spindles of 6,000 / 8,000 rpm and direct drive spindles of 8,000 / 10,000 rpm are listed as options.

Z rapid traverse is 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm), while X moves at 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm) and Y at 15,000 mm/min (591 ipm). Y travel is 3,200 mm (126.0 in) over a 3,020 x 2,400 mm (118.9 x 94.5 in) table for 12,000 kg (26,455 lb). The machine weighs 39,000 kg (85,979 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z travel with up to 1,200 mm (47.2 in) between spindle nose and table
  • 4,000 rpm high torque gear spindle as standard, rated by AWEA at 977 N-m at 254 rpm
  • X rapid of 20,000 mm/min (787 ipm), the fastest X figure among the YZF machines of this width
  • Built-in 6,000 / 8,000 rpm and direct drive 8,000 / 10,000 rpm spindles can be ordered instead
  • VDI positioning accuracy of P ≤ 0.025 mm over full travel

Limitations

  • Standard spindle speed is 4,000 rpm; the LP-3025YF comes with 6,000 rpm
  • Z rapid traverse drops to 10,000 mm/min (394 ipm) from 15,000 mm/min (591 ipm) on the LP-3025YF
  • 39,000 kg (85,979 lb) of machine weight for a 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) table load
  • X travel of 3,000 mm (118.1 in) is shorter than the 3,200 mm Y stroke, so long parts need the LP-4025YZF
06

Best For

Tall housings and gearbox cases up to 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) Heavy face milling and boring at low spindle speed Five-face work where the head must clear a high part Compact, heavy parts that need 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does the Z in LP-3025YZF change?

Z travel, spindle and weight. The LP-3025YZF has 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z, a 4,000 rpm standard spindle and weighs 39,000 kg (85,979 lb). The LP-3025YF has 760 mm (29.9 in) of Z, a 6,000 rpm spindle and weighs 36,000 kg (79,365 lb). X travel, Y travel, the table and the 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) load do not change.

02 How much torque does the LP-3025YZF spindle have?

AWEA states that the 4,000 rpm high torque spindle with its 26 kW motor delivers a maximum of 977 N-m at 254 rpm. For comparison, the maker's built-in 6,000 and 8,000 rpm spindles are given as 600 N-m at 350 rpm, and the direct drive 8,000 and 10,000 rpm spindles as 165 N-m at 1,500 rpm. Those two families are options on this model.

03 Can the Z axis have linear guide ways?

The standard Z axis is a box way, hardened and precisely ground, which AWEA describes as suited to heavy-duty cutting. Roller type linear guide ways on Z are offered as an option only together with the high speed direct drive spindle. X and Y use roller type linear guide ways in every case.

04 How tall a part clears the spindle on the LP-3025YZF?

The distance from spindle nose to table top runs from 200 mm to 1,200 mm (7.9 ~ 47.2 in). That is the vertical-spindle figure. A milling head, a fixture and the tool itself all come out of that distance, so check the stack for the tallest setup before settling on this Z stroke.
