Overview

The Hartford HSA-836EA is the largest model in the EA five-face line and the only one rated for 30,000 kg (66,138 lb). The table is 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in); travel is 8,000 mm (315.0 in) in X and 3,600 mm (141.7 in) in Y.

Everything Hartford lists as standard only on the bigger machines is standard here. The X-axis ballscrew is supported, as on all models above 5 meters. The Y-axis ballscrew is supported, as on all HSA-x36 models. What remains optional is taller Z travel, 1,200 mm in place of 1,000 mm, a faster 8,000 rpm gear head in place of the 6,000 rpm one, and the 30 / 35 kW motor in place of 18.5 / 22 kW.

The size targets parts that are both long and wide, such as large mould halves, press crowns and beds, wind and marine components. A buyer who needs still more Y travel for head clearance should compare the HSA-836EAY, which has 4,400 mm (173.2 in) of Y on this table.

Five-face machining relies on the automatic universal angular head and the head switching compartment, working with a vertical and horizontal tool change system. A 10,000 rpm hybrid spindle is listed as the alternative to the gear head.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 30,000 kg (66,138 lb) table load, the highest among the EA models
  • 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in) table with 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y travel
  • Ballscrew support standard on X and on Y
  • Automatic head change combined with vertical and horizontal tool change

Limitations

  • Z travel is 1,000 mm as standard, the same as on the two-metre model
  • The 30 / 35 kW motor and the 8,000 rpm gear head are options
  • For more Y clearance the HSA-836EAY with 4,400 mm (173.2 in) is a separate model

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the largest part the HSA-836EA can take?

The table is 8,000 x 3,000 mm (315.0 x 118.1 in) and rated for 30,000 kg (66,138 lb). Travel is 8,000 mm in X, 3,600 mm (141.7 in) in Y and 1,000 mm in Z, or 1,200 mm in Z as an option.

02 What is optional on the HSA-836EA?

From the spec table: 1,200 mm Z travel, the 8,000 rpm gear head, the 30 / 35 kW spindle motor, the 40 and 60 tool magazines, and CAT-50, DIN50 or BBT-50 shanks in place of BT-50. Ballscrew support on X and Y is standard on this size.

03 How does the HSA-836EA differ from the HSA-832EA?

The HSA-832EA has an 8,000 x 2,500 mm (315.0 x 98.4 in) table, 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of Y travel and a 27,000 kg (59,524 lb) rating. The HSA-836EA is 3,000 mm wide, has 3,600 mm of Y and carries 30,000 kg.

04 Does the HSA-836EA have a high-speed spindle?

The fastest spindle in its table is the 10,000 rpm hybrid. The gear head runs 6,000 rpm, or 8,000 rpm as an option. All are #50, so the machine is set up for large cutters and heavy stock removal more than for small-tool finishing.
