Overview

At 20,000 mm (787.4 in) of X travel, the AWEA MCP-20050 is the longest size in the MCP tables. With no larger model above it, the choice at this length is only how wide to go.

Three MCP machines reach 20 metres. The MCP-20040 has 4,400 mm (173.2 in) of Y and a 20,000 x 2,800 mm (787.4 x 110.2 in) table. The MCP-20060 has 6,400 mm (252.0 in) of Y and a 20,000 x 4,800 mm (787.4 x 189.0 in) table. This model falls between them with 5,400 mm (212.6 in) and 20,000 x 3,800 mm (787.4 x 149.6 in). Outside the series, the LG-20070 offers the same X with 7,000 mm (275.6 in) of Y, but only 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of Z against the 1,400 mm (55.1 in) here.

AWEA names the work the series was designed for: large workpieces as required by aerospace, automotive and marine industries, and it adds that LCD and semiconductor manufacturers use the machines too. A 20-metre bed with multi-face capability fits that list. Think of long spars, press frames and hull sections that would otherwise be moved between machines to reach their sides and ends.

Nothing about the head or drives is scaled up for the length. The spindle motor is 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp), the taper BBT50, and X rapid stays at 10 m/min (394 ipm). The longest bed in the group carries the same 4,000 liter coolant tank and 80 kVA requirement as the shortest.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 20,000 mm (787.4 in) of X travel, the longest stroke listed for the MCP series
  • 1,400 mm (55.1 in) of Z, more than the 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of the LG-20070
  • Table of 20,000 x 3,800 mm (787.4 x 149.6 in) for single parts or several setups in line
  • Multi-face machining function is part of the standard machine
  • Key components are made in-house or sourced from Europe and Japan, according to AWEA

Limitations

  • Y travel of 5,400 mm (212.6 in) is less than the 6,400 mm (252.0 in) of the MCP-20060 and the 7,000 mm (275.6 in) of the LG-20070
  • X rapid of 10 m/min (394 ipm) over a 20,000 mm stroke
  • Spindle motor stays at 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) on the largest machine
  • There is no longer MCP model to move up to

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the longest MCP machine AWEA lists?

The 20,000 mm (787.4 in) X travel models: the MCP-20040, the MCP-20050 and the MCP-20060. Y travel is 4,400 mm (173.2 in) on the MCP-20040, 5,400 mm (212.6 in) on the MCP-20050 and 6,400 mm (252.0 in) on the MCP-20060. No MCP with a longer X stroke appears in the maker's specification tables.

02 How does the MCP-20050 differ from the LG-20070?

Both travel 20,000 mm (787.4 in) in X. The LG-20070 is wider, with 7,000 mm (275.6 in) of Y and a 20,000 x 6,800 mm (787.4 x 267.7 in) table, and its X rapid is 20 m/min (787 ipm). The MCP-20050 has 5,400 mm (212.6 in) of Y and a 40T magazine, and its 1,400 mm (55.1 in) of Z exceeds the 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of the LG-20070.

03 Which industries is the MCP-20050 intended for?

AWEA says the MCP series was designed for machining large workpieces as required by the aerospace, automotive and marine industries, and that it is also employed by LCD and semiconductor manufacturers. The MCP-20050 is the long, mid-width machine in that series.

04 Is the spindle of the MCP-20050 larger than on shorter MCP models?

No. The MCP-20050 has the BBT50 spindle and 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) motor of the MCP-8050. Rapids, the 40T magazine and tool limits of Ø125 / Ø200 mm (Ø4.9 / Ø7.9 in), 400 mm (15.7 in) and 20 kg (44 lb) are unchanged as well.
