AWEA AF-1600II — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the AWEA AF-1600II that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from AWEA or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training

Overview

The AWEA AF-1600II tops the standard AF-II line with 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of X travel, 740 mm (29.1 in) of Y and 610 mm (24.0 in) of Z. It is built on a wider casting than the three models below it: the spindle center stands 780 mm (30.7 in) from the column, and the 1,700 x 740 mm (66.9 x 29.1 in) table has seven T-slots where the others have five.

Several rows of AWEA's table change only for this model. The tool magazine holds 30 tools, not 24. Maximum tool weight is 8 kg (18 lb). Table load reaches 1,450 kg (3,197 lb). And the taper is listed simply as BT40, with no BT50 option shown, although the AF-1400II next to it in the same table does show one. Buyers who want a 50-taper spindle in this travel range should ask AWEA directly or look at the AF-1600MAX.

The larger moving mass shows in the feed figures. X and Y rapids are 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) and Z is 24 m/min (945 ipm), a step down from the AF-1400II. Cutting feed stays at 15 m/min (591 ipm). The direct-drive spindle gives 12,000 rpm from an 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) motor, so this is a large-envelope machine with a light, fast spindle: well matched to aluminium plate and finishing passes on big mold surfaces, less so to heavy roughing in steel.

Weight is 8,600 kg (18,959 lb), power requirement 35 kVA, and the coolant tank holds 486 liter. Positioning accuracy is 0.008 mm and repeatability 0.006 mm to ISO230-2.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Largest standard AF-II envelope: 1,600 x 740 x 610 mm of travel on a 1,700 x 740 mm (66.9 x 29.1 in) table
  • 30-tool magazine, six more pockets than any other AF model in AWEA's tables
  • Table load of 1,450 kg (3,197 lb) with seven 18 mm T-slots for fixturing
  • Much lighter than the AF-1600MAX: 8,600 kg (18,959 lb) against 16,000 kg (35,273 lb)
  • Tool weight limit raised to 8 kg (18 lb)

Limitations

  • No BT50 option is shown in the table for this model
  • Rapids fall to 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) in X and Y and 24 m/min (945 ipm) in Z
  • Z travel is still 610 mm (24.0 in); the AF-1600MAX offers 800 mm (31.5 in)
  • The 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) spindle motor is modest for a table that takes 1,450 kg
06

Best For

Large aluminium plates and panels up to 1,600 x 740 mm Finishing of wide mold surfaces at 12,000 rpm Jobs with long tool lists that fill the 30-tool magazine Heavy fixtures up to 1,450 kg (3,197 lb) with light cutting loads

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How many tools does the AWEA AF-1600II hold?

AWEA's table lists a tool magazine capacity of 30 T for the AF-1600II, where the other AF models list 24 T. Maximum tool length is 250 mm (9.8 in), maximum weight 8 kg (18 lb), and maximum diameter Ø75 mm, or Ø150 mm with adjacent pockets empty. The magazine is attached to the column.

02 Is the AF-1600II available with a BT50 spindle?

The specification table shows BT40 only for the AF-1600II, while the AF-1400II and the AF-1600MAX are shown as BT40 with BT50 optional. AWEA describes a 6,000 rpm BT50 gear spindle for the series and asks buyers to check applicable models with the sales representative, so confirm before assuming it can be ordered on this machine.

03 What are the table dimensions and load of the AF-1600II?

The table is 1,700 x 740 mm (66.9 x 29.1 in) with seven T-slots, 18 mm wide at a 100 mm pitch, and it carries 1,450 kg (3,197 lb). Travels are 1,600 mm (63.0 in), 740 mm (29.1 in) and 610 mm (24.0 in) in X, Y and Z.

04 How does the AF-1600II compare with the AF-1600MAX?

X travel is the same at 1,600 mm (63.0 in). The AF-1600MAX has 800 mm (31.5 in) of Y and Z, a 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) table load, 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) X and Y rapids and weighs 16,000 kg (35,273 lb). The AF-1600II is lighter at 8,600 kg (18,959 lb), moves at 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) and has the 30-tool magazine.
