Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Zimmermann FZU37 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
No foundation pit: that is the selling point of the Zimmermann FZU37. Zimmermann states that the unibody machine dispenses with a fixed machine foundation and can be set up on solid industrial floors, yet the specification is that of its large portal machines. Standard linear accuracy is ≤8μm / ≤4μm (A/R to ISO 230-2), volumetric accuracy is ≤50μm / ≤30μm, and the linear axes accelerate at up to 5 m/s².
The working ranges are 2,500 to 6,000 mm (98 to 236 in) in X, 3,000, 3,500 or 4,000 mm (118, 138 or 157 in) in Y and 1,250 or 1,500 mm (49 or 59 in) in Z. The table is fixed to the machine, so the workpiece does not move during machining, and it carries 8,000 kg/m² up to a maximum of 35 t. T-slots are 18H12, with 18H8 as an option, at a 250 mm pitch.
Zimmermann positions the machine for aluminum and composite materials, and the VH30 spindles on the data sheet fit that. Both reach 30,000 rpm. One is rated 74 kW at S1 with 73 Nm; the other 125 kW at S1 with 60 Nm. With 360°/s on the A and C axes, the head is built for fast 5-axis contouring more than for heavy roughing. The FZU42, in the same travels, is the machine for steel and titanium.
Even the smallest version is a big installation: 5,100 mm long, 7,600 mm wide and 5,950 mm high without peripherals, rising to 10,100 mm, 8,600 mm and 6,450 mm. Increased accuracy tightens the linear values to ≤5μm / ≤3μm and thermostability to ≤ 10μm under ISO 230-3.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Set up on a solid industrial floor without a fixed machine foundation, according to Zimmermann
- Standard linear accuracy of ≤8μm / ≤4μm and volumetric accuracy of ≤50μm / ≤30μm (A/R, ISO 230-2)
- Linear acceleration of up to 5 m/s² with feed rates of up to 60 m/min

- 30,000 rpm VH30 spindles with 74 kW or 125 kW at S1
Limitations
- X travel ends at 6,000 mm (236 in); longer parts need the FZP37, listed up to 40,000 mm
- Z travel is 1,250 or 1,500 mm only
- Needs at least 5,950 mm of height and a 5,100 mm by 7,600 mm floor area before peripherals
- Highest spindle torque on the data sheet is 92 Nm at S6, which limits heavy cuts in steel

Frequently Asked Questions
01
According to Zimmermann, no fixed machine foundation: the unibody machine can be set up flexibly on solid industrial floors. The table is permanently attached to the machine, which Zimmermann says keeps the workpiece in the same position throughout machining. The floor still has to carry the machine and a table load of up to 35 t, so its capacity should be checked.
02
The X axis covers 2,500 – 6,000 mm (98 – 236 in). The Y axis is 3,000, 3,500 or 4,000 mm (118, 138 or 157 in) and the Z axis 1,250 or 1,500 mm (49 or 59 in). The table is 2,500 – 6,000 mm long and 3,000 – 4,000 mm wide.
03
The data sheet shows the VH30 head with two spindles, both 30,000 rpm and HSK-A63/80. The first delivers 74 kW at S1 and 78 kW at S6, with 73 Nm and 92 Nm and constant power from 9,690 rpm. The second delivers 125 kW at S1 and 156 kW at S6, with 60 Nm and 75 Nm. Other spindle options are available on request, and the VH10 and VH20 heads are also listed for the machine.
04
The FZU37 is the stiffer specification. Its standard linear accuracy is ≤8μm / ≤4μm where the FZU32 lists ≤10μm / ≤6μm, it accelerates at up to 5 m/s² against up to 3 m/s², and its table takes 8,000 kg/m² against 6,000 kg/m² on the FZU32. It also adds a 4,000 mm Y option. The FZU32 starts smaller, from 2,000 mm of X.

Heidenhain TNC 7 or Siemens SINUMERIK ONE. The optional equipment on the data sheet includes a tool changer, tool probe, tool measuring system, chip conveyor, mist/dust extraction, lubricant cooling, minimum quantity lubrication, a vacuum system and a dust extraction bell.
