Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Zimmermann FZU42 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Zimmermann FZU42 puts a titanium-capable portal milling machine on a normal factory floor. Zimmermann says it needs no fixed machine foundation: a reinforced base plate sits on eight support elements, and the side walls are filled with special concrete to reduce vibration. The machine is meant for simultaneous 5-axis machining of aluminum, steel and titanium.
Its envelope is the same as that of the FZU37: 2,500 to 6,000 mm (98 to 236 in) in X, 3,000, 3,500 or 4,000 mm in Y and 1,250 or 1,500 mm in Z, on a table rated 8,000 kg/m² with a maximum of 35 t. The difference is the head. Where the FZU37 is shown with 30,000 rpm spindles, the FZU42 data sheet shows the VH60 with HSK-A100 spindles: 63 kW at S1 with 300 Nm and 15,000 rpm, or 93 kW at S1 with 444 Nm and 8,000 rpm.
A spindle changing system, MuST, is listed with three more spindles: a 44 kW roughing spindle at 10,000 rpm with 200 Nm at S1, a 45 kW roughing spindle at 5,000 rpm with 344 Nm, and a 50 kW universal spindle at 24,000 rpm with 95 Nm on HSK-A63. The rotary axes of the VH60 deliver 3,000 Nm in control and clamp at 5,600 Nm on A and 6,000 Nm on C, which is what lets a 2-axis head hold its position in a heavy cut.
Accuracy is specified at ≤8μm / ≤4μm linear and ≤50μm / ≤30μm volumetric (A/R to ISO 230-2) as standard. The trade-off for the mass is dynamics and space. Acceleration is up to 3 m/s², and the machine needs 5,600 – 10,600 mm by 7,700 – 8,700 mm of floor and 6,300 – 6,800 mm of height without peripherals. The VH40 and M3ABC heads are the listed alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Zimmermann says it does not require a permanent machine foundation and can be installed directly on a solid industrial floor. A reinforced base plate and eight support elements reduce vibration, and the side walls are filled with special concrete. The floor itself must still be suitable for the machine and its table load, which is listed at 8,000 kg/m² with a maximum of 35 t.
02
Five are on the data sheet for the VH60 head. Two milling spindles on HSK-A100: 63 kW at S1 (82 kW at S6) with 15,000 rpm and 300 Nm, and 93 kW at S1 (103 kW at S6) with 8,000 rpm and 444 Nm. Three under the MuST spindle changing system: roughing spindles of 44 kW with 10,000 rpm and 45 kW with 5,000 rpm, both HSK-A100, and a 50 kW universal spindle with 24,000 rpm on HSK-A63.
03
Travels and table load are the same on both. The FZU42 takes the heavier heads, VH40, VH60 and M3ABC, with spindle torque up to 444 Nm at S1, and is described for aluminum, steel and titanium. The FZU37 takes the VH10, VH20 and VH30 heads, is described for aluminum and composites, and accelerates faster: up to 5 m/s² against up to 3 m/s².
04
In the standard configuration: ≤8μm / ≤4μm linear and ≤50μm / ≤30μm volumetric (A/R to ISO 230-2), 8 and 5 arc seconds on the rotary axes, and ≤ 20μm thermostability to ISO 230-3. With increased accuracy: ≤5μm / ≤3μm, ≤30μm / ≤20μm, 6 and 4 arc seconds, and ≤ 10μm.
05
X is 2,500 – 6,000 mm (98 – 236 in), Y is 3,000, 3,500 or 4,000 mm (118, 138 or 157 in) and Z is 1,250 or 1,500 mm (49 or 59 in). Required space without peripherals is 5,600 – 10,600 mm long, 7,700 – 8,700 mm wide and 6,300 – 6,800 mm high.
