How much does the Zimmermann FZP22 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Zimmermann FZP22 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Zimmermann FZP22 is the smallest machine in the FZP line: a 5-axis portal milling machine with a top-moving gantry, built for aluminum, plastics, wood and the finishing of CFRP parts rather than for heavy metal removal. X travel comes in three lengths, 3,000, 4,000 or 5,000 mm (118, 157 or 197 in). Y is 3,000 or 3,500 mm (118 or 138 in) and Z is 1,250 or 1,500 mm (49 or 59 in).
Zimmermann describes it as the version of the FZU22 for large-volume components. The two machines take the same heads, S2 and C2, and the same Y travels. What the FZP22 adds is length, since the FZU22 stops at 2,500 mm in X. In the maker's naming the P stands for Performance: the machine bed is recessed into the foundation, which gives ground-level access and allows automatic loading.
Both heads carry a 15 kW spindle with an HSK-F63 tool holder and a top speed of 24,000 rpm. The data sheet rates it at 15 kW at S1 and 18 kW at S6, with 12 Nm of torque at S1 and 14 Nm at S6. Those are finishing figures. With so little torque the machine depends on small tools at high speed, which suits plastics, wood and CFRP trimming and rules out serious roughing in steel. The A axis swivels ±96° or ±120° and the C axis ±270°, and Zimmermann says the head's geometry suits hard-to-reach workpiece locations.
Linear feed rates reach up to 70 m/min in X and Y and up to 40 m/min in Z. Accuracy is stated only as in accordance to VDI/DGQ 3441 or ISO 230-2, with no micron figures, and the control is a Heidenhain TNC7 or a Siemens SINUMERIK ONE.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Three X lengths, 3,000, 4,000 or 5,000 mm (118, 157 or 197 in), on a Y of 3,000 or 3,500 mm
- Feed rates of up to 70 m/min in X and Y for fast finishing passes on large, light parts
- 24,000 rpm spindle with HSK-F63 tool holder on both the S2 and the C2 head
- A-axis swivel of ±96° or ±120° and C-axis range of ±270° for 5-axis work on models and molded parts
- Control is a choice of Heidenhain TNC7 or Siemens SINUMERIK ONE
Limitations
- Spindle torque is 12 Nm at S1 and 14 Nm at S6, so the machine is limited to light cuts with small tools
- Constant power starts at 12,000 U/min on the data sheet; below that speed the full 15 kW is not available
- Accuracy is stated only by reference to VDI/DGQ 3441 or ISO 230-2; no positioning figures are given for the linear axes
- Z travel is 1,250 or 1,500 mm, less than the 1,500, 1,750 or 2,000 mm offered on the FZP27
- Chip conveyor, mist/dust extraction and minimum quantity lubrication are listed as optional equipment

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X is 3,000, 4,000 or 5,000 mm (118, 157 or 197 in), Y is 3,000 or 3,500 mm (118 or 138 in) and Z is 1,250 or 1,500 mm (49 or 59 in). The data sheet adds that other dimensions are available on request.
02
Zimmermann says both the S2 and the C2 head carry a 15 kW milling spindle that runs up to 24,000 rpm with an HSK-F63 tool holder. The data sheet gives 15 kW at S1 and 18 kW at S6, torque of 12 Nm at S1 and 14 Nm at S6, a spring clamp for the tool and pneumatic unclamping. Other spindle options are available on request.
03
Mainly in length and in how it is installed. The FZP22 offers 3,000, 4,000 or 5,000 mm of X travel, while the FZU22 is listed with 1,800 or 2,500 mm. Zimmermann explains that P stands for Performance, with the machine bed recessed into the foundation for ground-level access and automatic loading, and describes the FZU22 as a monoblock structure. Both take the S2 and C2 heads.
04
The data sheet lists two: Heidenhain TNC7 and Siemens SINUMERIK ONE. Zimmermann's description of the machine speaks of a control of the latest generation, from Siemens or Heidenhain.
05
Without peripherals the required space is 5,630 – 6,630 mm (221 – 261 in) long, 5,840 – 6,340 mm (230 – 250 in) wide and 4,400 – 4,650 mm (173 – 183 in) high, depending on the travels chosen. Any chip conveyor or extraction system comes on top. Because the P-line bed sits recessed in the foundation, the pit has to be planned with the building.
