Overview
Box guideways on all three axes set the YCM NMV76A apart from the linear-guide machines that fill most of YCM's vertical range. It is a BBT40 vertical machining center with 762 mm (30.00 in) of X travel, 510 mm (20.08 in) of Y and 560 mm (22.05 in) of Z, described by its maker as built for heavy cutting.
A boxway carries load on broad sliding faces, which damps vibration in interrupted cuts and stands up to shock. YCM hand scrapes the ways, supports the table on a dual-wall saddle with a 650mm Y-axis span, and leaves the counterweight off the Z axis for better dynamic accuracy. The Z axis is supported outside the column.
The spindle list gives the buyer a real choice. Standard is a 12,000 rpm direct-drive IDD spindle with 18.5 kW (25 HP), which YCM positions for parts machining. One option is an 8,000 rpm spindle with gear transmission that reaches 45.04 kgf-m of torque, aimed at castings and titanium. The other is a 10,000 rpm geared spindle, for which spindle cooling is standard. Power is 18.5 kW in each case; what changes is where in the speed range the torque sits.
The table is 915 x 560 mm (36.02 x 22.05 in) and takes 500 kg (1,102 lb). Even with sliding ways the axes rapid at 36 m/min in X and Y and 24 m/min in Z. The magazine holds 24 tools, or 30 as an option, picks the shortest path in either direction and changes in 1.8 sec. Machine weight is 5,100 kg (11,243 lb).
