Overview

The YCM DCV4030B-5AF is a heavy double-column 5-axis machining center with a fork-type universal milling head. Linear travels are 4,065 mm in X, 3,500 mm in Y and 1,016 mm in Z; the head swivels ±110° in B and turns ±180° in C. The table is 4,100 x 2,400 mm and carries 20,000 kg.

The C-axis range is what separates the 5AF from the 5AX model that shares its frame. Here C is limited to ±180°, half the rotation of the DCV4030B-5AX, and the spindle is listed at 43 kW (58 HP) against 46 kW (62 HP). The head still reaches every orientation, but it has to unwind at the end of its range instead of turning on continuously. For positioned five-face work and for most contouring that is no handicap; for continuous spiral paths around a part it adds retract moves.

YCM describes the head, which it calls 5AX ROBO I, as a symmetrical fork made of nodular graphite cast iron, a shape chosen to limit heat distortion in heavy cuts. Both rotary axes use direct drive motors with HEIDENHAIN encoders, double direction roller bearings and disc type hydraulic clamps. The built-in motorized spindle has an HSK-A100 taper and runs to 10,000 rpm.

This is a machine for steel and cast iron as much as for aluminium. Tools weigh up to 13 kg. The linear axes are gearbox driven on roller type guideways, with rapids of 20 m/min in X and Y and 15 m/min in Z. Coolant through the spindle at 20 bar is optional. Machine weight is 58,000 kg.
