Overview

Short lever arms are the theme of the Vision Wide MHN-4040 / MHN-4047. Vision Wide says the minimum distance between the spindle center and the Z-axis roller way shortens the cutting lever arm and significantly improves cutting rigidity.

The lever arm in question is the overhang of the spindle in front of the guides that hold the ram. Every newton at the cutter is multiplied by that distance into a moment the guides must resist. Halve the overhang and the same guides see half the moment, so the tool deflects less and chatter starts later. On a machine this wide the head is already far from the columns, and keeping the spindle tight to its own ways is one of the few places left to gain stiffness.

This pair is nearly square in plan. X travel is 4,100 mm (161.4 in). Y travel is 4,000 mm (157.5 in) on the MHN-4040 and 4,700 mm (185.0 in) on the MHN-4047. The table measures 4,000×3,500 mm (157.5×137.8 in) and carries 20,000 kg (44,092 lb).

The standard spindle is a box way 4,000rpm 2-step gear type with 22/26 kW (29.5/34.9 hp). X/Y rapid is 10 m/min. The HF-4040 / HF-4047 is the five-face machining center on the same figures.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does Vision Wide say about the MHN-4040 spindle position?

That the distance between the spindle center and the Z-axis roller way is kept to a minimum, which shortens the cutting lever arm and significantly improves cutting rigidity. No dimension is given.

02 What are the MHN-4040 / MHN-4047 travels?

X is 4,100 mm (161.4 in). Y is 4,000/ 4,700 mm (157.5/ 185.0 in) for the MHN-4040 and MHN-4047. Z is 920 mm on the standard box way head.

03 How big is the MHN-4040 table?

4,000×3,500 mm (157.5×137.8 in), rated for 20,000 kg (44,092 lb). The MHN-4035 has a 4,000×3,000 mm (157.5×118.1 in) table with the same load.

04 What machining center matches the MHN-4040?

The HF-4040, which lists the same travels, the same 4,000×3,500 mm (157.5×137.8 in) table and 20,000 kg (44,092 lb), with tool changer rows in its table.
