Overview

With a 72 x 125 x 12 in (1,829 x 3,175 x 305 mm) cut area, the ShopSabre PRO 510 is the largest PRO Series router and the one sized for 5x10 sheet. The extra foot of width over the PRO 408 is what plastics fabricators, sign shops and anyone cutting 5 ft wide panels are after.

A wider gantry is a longer beam, and a longer beam is where a light machine starts to show chatter in the middle of the table. ShopSabre's answer on the PRO is a steel tube cross bridge on steel uprights with milled mating surfaces, 25 mm profile rails with quad-roller bearings, and ball screws in place of racks. Listed repeatability is unchanged from the smaller sizes at +/- 0.001 in (0.025 mm).

The 125 in long axis is driven by two screws, one per side, and rapid speed is 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min). That is a sensible pairing for a screw of this length. Buyers who want more speed across a 5x10 table should compare the IS 510, which lists 2,100 ipm.

Floor space is the real commitment: 93 x 156 x 93 in (2,362 x 3,962 x 2,362 mm) before material handling. Z travel is 16 in (406 mm) and gantry clearance 12 in (305 mm) standard. The Well Equipped build carries a 5 hp / 6 hp tool-change spindle with 6 positions and a 4-zone phenolic vacuum-ready top, and a 10 hp ISO spindle with a 12-position changer is on the options list for shops that hog thick material.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How large is the PRO 510 cutting area?

72 x 125 x 12 in (1,829 x 3,175 x 305 mm). A 5x10 sheet leaves several inches free on each edge. Z travel is 16 in (406 mm) and the gantry clears 12 in (305 mm) as standard.

02 Is the PRO 510 less accurate than the PRO 408 because it is bigger?

Not according to the table. Both list +/- 0.001 in positional repeatability, AC servo motors and ball screws on X, dual Y and Z. The PRO 408 cuts 60 x 100 x 12 in and the PRO 510 cuts 72 x 125 x 12 in; the other rows are identical.

03 What is the difference between the PRO 510 and the IS 510?

The IS 510 lists a 2,100 ipm rapid speed against 1,200 ipm, a 75 x 125 x 12 in cut area against 72 x 125 x 12 in, and a Well Equipped package with a 10 hp / 12 hp spindle and 12 tool positions. Repeatability, Z travel and gantry clearance are the same on both.

04 What hold-down does the PRO 510 use?

The Well Equipped package has a surfaced phenolic hi-flow vacuum-ready tabletop with 4 independently controlled zones and pop-up reference pins. A full aluminum T-slot top and hybrid T-slot and vacuum tops are options. The vacuum pump is selected separately.
