Overview

The Onsrud 98RH is the eight-foot model of the RH-Series, Onsrud's roller hold-down routers. The table is 96 in (2,438 mm) by 48 in (1,219 mm), and four rollers press the material down beside the cut while an 18 hp (13.4 kW), 24,000 rpm spindle works between them.

Roller hold-down solves two problems vacuum alone does not. Stacked sheets slip, because vacuum only grips the bottom one. Warped sheets leak. Onsrud places two retractable pairs of rollers on the leading and trailing edges of the cutting envelope, each with regulated pressure, so a stack is clamped right where the tool is. For single sheets, plastics or aluminum the rollers can be disengaged and the table used as a normal vacuum table with 2 zones.

It is a 3-axis fixed-bridge machine, and a long one for its table: 250 in (6,350 mm), which is longer than either of the larger RH models. Width is 127 in (3,226 mm) and height 92 in (2,337 mm).

Twelve tools and an 11 in (279 mm) Z-stroke are standard. The upgrades are a 24 hp (17.9 kW) spindle, a second spindle and a second tool changer.

  • Rollers disengage for single sheets, plastics or aluminum
  • 18 hp (13.4 kW) standard spindle, 24 hp (17.9 kW) optional
  • Table matches a standard sheet at 96 in (2,438 mm) by 48 in (1,219 mm)

Limitations

  • Listed length of 250 in (6,350 mm), more than the larger 122RH
  • Table has no margin beyond a 96 in (2,438 mm) by 48 in (1,219 mm) sheet
  • Z-stroke is 11 in (279 mm) with no longer option listed

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the roller hold-down on the 98RH work?

Two retractable pairs of rollers sit on the leading and trailing edges of the cutting envelope and press down with regulated pressure. They stop the top sheet of a stack from slipping and flatten warped sheets while the spindle cuts between them.

02 What is the table size of the Onsrud 98RH?

96 in (2,438 mm) by 48 in (1,219 mm) with 2 vacuum zones. The machine is 250 in (6,350 mm) long, 127 in (3,226 mm) wide and 92 in (2,337 mm) high.

03 Can the 98RH cut single sheets without the rollers?

Yes. Onsrud states that the rollers can be disengaged when cutting single sheets or materials such as plastics or aluminum, leaving the vacuum table to hold the work.

04 What spindle does the 98RH use?

An 18 hp (13.4 kW) spindle at up to 24,000 rpm is standard. A 24 hp (17.9 kW) spindle and a second spindle are listed as upgrades, with a 12-tool changer as standard.
