Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Komo Fusion XL that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Komo positions the Fusion XL one step above the Xtreme XL, and names three reasons: more flexibility, a larger tool changer and more Z travel. In figures, the Komo Fusion XL carries a 15-tool changer on the spindle itself, has 12 in (305 mm) of Z travel, and adds aluminum to the wood, plastics and composites Komo recommends it for.
Mounting the changer on the spindle is the change that matters most in production. The tools travel with the head, so a change happens wherever the spindle is, without a run to the side of the machine. Capacity starts at 15 tools and reaches 45 with an optional second head and an optional side auxiliary tool changer. A second spindle is optional as well.
The frame is quicker than the lower series in the axis that counts for nesting. X and Y both traverse at 3,150 ipm (80 m/min) and acceleration is 205 in/sec², the highest figure Komo prints for a three-axis router. Z is slower at 900 ipm (22.7 m/min). The standard spindle is an 18 hp (13.2 kW) four-pole, fan-cooled HSK 63F unit running up to 24,000 rpm, and Komo notes that other spindle options are available.
Tables are the 508, 510 and 512: 60 in x 96 in (1,524 mm x 2,438 mm), 60 in x 120 in (1,524 mm x 3,048 mm) and 60 in x 144 in (1,524 mm x 3,658 mm), each with four 1 in (25 mm) location pins. Travels run from 116 in (2,965 mm) to 164 in (4,166 mm) in X with 86 in (2,184 mm) in Y. The option list is longer than on the Xtreme XL and includes a metal cutting package with mist coolant and a dust/chip enclosure, and a roller hold down table.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Spindle-mounted, aggregate-capable changer for 15 tools, expandable to 45 with a second head and side auxiliary changer
- X and Y traverse of 3,150 ipm (80 m/min) with 205 in/sec² acceleration
- 12 in (305 mm) of Z travel, against 10 in (254 mm) on the Xtreme XL
- Second spindle available as an option
- Komo recommends it for aluminum as well as wood, plastics and composites
Limitations
- Z traverse is 900 ipm (22.7 m/min), slower than the 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) of the Xtreme XL
- Tools in the changer are limited to 5 in (127 mm) in length and 12 lbs each
- The mist coolant and dust/chip enclosure needed for metal cutting are options
- Reaching 45 tools needs both an optional second head and an optional side auxiliary changer
- Z travel of 12 in (305 mm) is still below the 15 in (381 mm) of the Mach III

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Komo says more flexibility, a larger tool changer and more Z travel. The Fusion XL mounts a 15-tool changer on the spindle where the Xtreme XL has a side-mounted 12-tool changer, and has 12 in (305 mm) of Z against 10 in (254 mm). Y traverse rises to 3,150 ipm (80 m/min) from the 2,300 ipm (58.5 m/min) of the Xtreme XL.
02
One Hiteco or HSD spindle is standard and a second spindle is optional. The changer holds 15 tools as standard, and the maximum tool capacity is 45 with an optional second head and an optional side auxiliary tool changer. Each tool can weigh 12 lbs, with 96 lbs in total (5.4 kg / 43.5 kg).
03
Aluminum is on Komo's list of recommended applications for this model, together with wood and plastics and composites. For metal work Komo lists a metal cutting option with mist coolant and a dust/chip enclosure for non-ferrous metals. The universal grid fixture table is composite as standard and aluminum as an option.
04
The 508 travels 116 in (2,965 mm) x 86 in (2,184 mm) x 12 in (305 mm), the 510 142 in (3,607 mm) x 86 in (2,184 mm) x 12 in (305 mm) and the 512 164 in (4,166 mm) x 86 in (2,184 mm) x 12 in (305 mm). Tables are 60 in wide and 96 in, 120 in or 144 in long.
