Uncertain

We do not have a price for the DMS Redwood3 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.

DMS Redwood3 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the DMS Redwood3 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from DMS or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The DMS Redwood3 is the large-format model of the DMS 3-axis line, and DMS calls it its most robust 3-axis platform. Its Y range runs from 5 ft to 100 ft, a length that belongs to boat plugs, wind-energy tooling and long extrusions, not to sheet goods. X, the bridge axis, is listed from 5 ft to 20 ft, and Z is 36 in or 48 in (914 or 1,219 mm).

A machine this long has to be rack and pinion, and it is. Motor encoders are all absolute, and linear scales are available as an option for buyers who need the position measured at the axis instead of at the motor. The control is a Fagor 8065.

DMS builds the size from two lists. Bridge lengths are 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12 or 15 ft. Depth comes in multiples of 5 ft up to 100 ft, with 12 ft and 22 ft also listed. The longest bridge on that list is 15 ft while the X stroke table reads up to 20 ft, so ask which figure applies before planning a part wider than 15 ft.

The spindle range is the widest in the group: 4.5-18 kW S1 across the Hiteco MT200, MT201, PT300, PT400 and PT500, with a maximum of 18 kW S1 / 21 kW S6 at 24,000 rpm. A rack, a carousel or manual changing is offered, up to 10 tools, and a C-axis is optional. Against the Bryce3, which stops at 6 ft on X and 13 kW S1, the Redwood3 is the choice when the part is long, tall or both.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Y range up to 100 ft, in depth multiples of 5 ft, for very long parts and tooling
  • Z stroke of 36 in or 48 in (914 or 1,219 mm), the tallest in the DMS 3-axis line
  • Spindle range of 4.5-18 kW S1 across five Hiteco units, up to 18 kW S1 / 21 kW S6
  • Linear scales are available as an option on top of all-absolute motor encoders
  • Seven bridge lengths from 5 ft to 15 ft

Limitations

  • Rack and pinion only; the ball-screw transmission of the Teton3 and Glacier3 is not listed for this model
  • The tool changer maximum is 10 tools, the same as on the much smaller Bryce3
  • The bridge-length list ends at 15 ft although the X stroke table reads up to 20 ft, which needs clarifying before ordering
  • A machine with up to 100 ft of Y needs floor space and foundations to match
06

Best For

Long parts and tooling: marine plugs, energy and aerospace patterns Thick foam and tooling-board blocks that need 36 in or 48 in of Z Large-format routing of composites, aluminum and plastics Buyers who need a 3-axis machine sized in 5 ft steps to their building

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big can a DMS Redwood3 be built?

The stroke table lists X, the bridge axis, from 5 ft to 20 ft and Y from 5 ft to 100 ft. The size list gives bridge lengths of 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12 or 15 ft and depths in multiples of 5 ft up to 100 ft, plus 12 ft and 22 ft. The two lists differ on the widest bridge, so confirm it with DMS.

02 What Z stroke does the Redwood3 have?

DMS lists two Z strokes, 36 in and 48 in (914 and 1,219 mm). That is well above the 18 in (457 mm) of the Teton3 and is what makes the Redwood3 usable on thick blocks and deep patterns as well as on sheet.

03 Which spindles and tool changers are offered on the Redwood3?

Spindles are the Hiteco MT200, MT201, PT300, PT400 and PT500, covering 4.5-18 kW S1, with a model maximum of 18 kW S1 / 21 kW S6 and 24,000 rpm. The tool changer can be a rack or a carousel, or tools are changed manually, and the maximum is 10 tools.

04 Does the Redwood3 have linear scales?

Not as standard. All motor encoders are absolute, and DMS lists scales as available as an option. On a rack-and-pinion machine of this length, scales measure the axis position directly, so they are worth pricing if positional accuracy over a long Y matters to the work.
