Overview

At 74 x 146 x 12 in (1,880 x 3,708 x 305 mm), the ShopSabre IS-M 612 has the longest cutting axis of any ShopSabre router and the Mitsubishi M80 control of the IS-M Series. It is the machine for 6x12 sheet in a shop that has decided it wants a dedicated CNC on its router.

Long axes are where servo tuning earns its keep. Each of the two Y ball screws on this machine has to move a steel gantry more than 12 ft and stop it without ringing, and the control has to keep both sides in step. ShopSabre fits its anti-whip arrangement to the screws and drives them with Mitsubishi 1 kW closed-loop servo motors on individual amplifiers with digital tuning. The listed result matches the smaller IS-M sizes: 2,100 ipm (53.3 m/min) rapid speed and +/- 0.001 in (0.025 mm) positional repeatability.

Width is the figure to check against your material. Seventy-four inches clears a 6x12 sheet by an inch each side, where the IS 612 offers 85 in. If panels arrive oversize or out of square, that margin disappears quickly.

The IS-M 612 stands 123 x 173 x 95 in (3,124 x 4,394 x 2,413 mm). Z travel is 16 in (406 mm) with 12 in (305 mm) of standard clearance. As packaged it has a 10 hp / 12 hp HSD spindle, a bi-directional rotary changer with 10 ISO30 positions and a 4-zone phenolic vacuum-ready top. With a table this size, vacuum pump capacity deserves its own conversation with ShopSabre, because the pump is selected from the options.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 146 in (3,708 mm) of cutting length, the longest in ShopSabre's router table
  • Mitsubishi M80 control with Mitsubishi 1 kW servo motors on individually tuned amplifiers
  • Same 2,100 ipm (53.3 m/min) rapid speed and +/- 0.001 in (0.025 mm) repeatability as the IS-M 408
  • Twin ball screws with anti-whip technology on the long Y axis
  • 16 in (406 mm) of Z travel under a 12 in (305 mm) gantry

Limitations

  • 74 in (1,880 mm) cutting width is tight for 6x12 sheet; the IS 612 has 85 in
  • 123 x 173 in (3,124 x 4,394 mm) footprint, delivered as one assembled machine
  • Vacuum pump is an option, and four zones serve a very large table
  • 10-position tool changer, with no larger magazine in the IS-M options

Best For

6x12 composite, plastic and plywood sheet in production quantities Long architectural and marine panels up to 146 in Two 4x6 or several smaller sheets nested in one cycle Operations that want Mitsubishi control and drives across their machines

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size sheet does the ShopSabre IS-M 612 cut?

The cut area is 74 x 146 x 12 in (1,880 x 3,708 x 305 mm), sized for 6x12 sheet with about an inch of margin per side. The IS-M 510 is the next size down at 62 x 122 x 12 in.

02 How does the IS-M 612 differ from the IS 612?

The IS 612 has the wider cut area, 85 x 145 x 12 in, a 12-position tool changer in its Well Equipped package and ShopSabre's WINCNC-based control. The IS-M 612 cuts 74 x 146 x 12 in and has the Mitsubishi M80 control with a 10-position rotary changer. Speed and repeatability are listed the same.

03 What spindle options are listed for the IS-M 612?

The Well Equipped package has a 10 hp / 12 hp HSD electric fan-cooled tool-change spindle. The options list covers manual-change HSD spindles in 4 hp or 9.3 hp and tool changer systems with 10 positions and HSD spindles in 5 hp ISO, 10 hp ISO or 13 hp HSK.

04 Does the IS-M 612 arrive assembled?

Yes. ShopSabre states that the machine ships fully assembled and needs no installation assistance. At 123 x 173 x 95 in (3,124 x 4,394 x 2,413 mm) that makes building access and rigging the main delivery question.
