Overview

The ShopSabre IS 510 is the 5x10 Industrial Series router: a 75 x 125 x 12 in (1,905 x 3,175 x 305 mm) cut area, ball screws on X, dual Y and Z, and a 2,100 ipm (53.3 m/min) rapid speed. Among ShopSabre's 5x10 machines it sits between the PRO 510 and the M80-controlled IS-M 510.

Seventy-five inches of width is more than a 5x10 sheet needs. The surplus is usable: it leaves room for a row of fixtures or a rotary axis beside the sheet area, or for parking a second cutting head clear of the work, since ShopSabre lists multiple-head, boring-head and aggregate attachments for this series and warns that some of them reduce the working area.

The structure is what ShopSabre calls stack-steel: oversized structural tube, welded as one piece, stress relieved and milled where rails and screw mounts seat. Motion comes from AC digital servo motors with matching amplifiers and glass encoders. Repeatability is listed at +/- 0.001 in (0.025 mm). A buyer comparing 5x10 machines should note that this figure is a repeatability, and that ShopSabre gives no absolute positioning accuracy.

As packaged, the IS 510 carries a 10 hp / 12 hp tool-change spindle with 12 positions, a phenolic 4-zone vacuum-ready tabletop, pop-up pins and a Z-axis brake. Overall size is 97 x 156 x 93 in (2,464 x 3,962 x 2,362 mm), with 16 in (406 mm) of Z travel. The control box is UL/CUL certified, a point that matters for insurance and for school or institutional installations.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 75 x 125 in (1,905 x 3,175 mm) cutting area gives working room beyond a 5x10 sheet
  • 2,100 ipm (53.3 m/min) rapid speed with ball screws on X, dual Y and Z
  • Packaged with a 10 hp / 12 hp spindle and 12 ISO30 tool positions
  • UL/CUL certified control box
  • Stress-relieved, aerospace-milled welded steel tube frame

Limitations

  • Footprint of 97 x 156 x 93 in (2,464 x 3,962 x 2,362 mm)
  • Boring heads and multiple cutting heads may reduce the working area
  • Uses ShopSabre's WINCNC-based control; the M80 control belongs to the IS-M 510
  • Positioning accuracy, weight and power requirement are not in the table
06

Best For

High-volume nesting from 5x10 sheet Plastics and composite fabrication from 5x10 sheet Heavy routing of hardwood, solid surface and aluminum plate Shops adding drill heads or a second spindle to a 5x10 table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the cut area of the ShopSabre IS 510?

75 x 125 x 12 in (1,905 x 3,175 x 305 mm), with 16 in (406 mm) of Z travel and a standard 12 in (305 mm) gantry clearance. The machine measures 97 x 156 x 93 in (2,464 x 3,962 x 2,362 mm) overall.

02 IS 510 or IS-M 510: what changes?

The control and the envelope. The IS-M 510 has the M80 control and a 62 x 122 x 12 in cut area in a 111 x 149 x 95 in footprint. The IS 510 uses ShopSabre's WINCNC-based controller and cuts 75 x 125 x 12 in. Both list 2,100 ipm rapids, +/- 0.001 in repeatability and 16 in of Z travel.

03 Can the IS 510 be fitted with drilling or aggregate heads?

ShopSabre's options for the IS Series include boring and drill head attachments, multiple cutting head attachments, a Multi-Tool System, and aggregate and C-axis attachments for the tool changer. It notes that availability depends on the model and that some of these reduce the working area.

04 What does the Well Equipped IS 510 include for hold-down?

A surfaced phenolic hi-flow vacuum-ready tabletop with 4 independently controlled zones, and industrial pop-up reference pins for aligning the sheet. Full aluminum T-slot and hybrid T-slot and vacuum tops are listed as options, as are the vacuum pumps.
