Overview

The Zayer THERA W adds a moving cross beam to the THERA gantry. The beam travels 1,100 mm (43.3 in), or 1,350 mm (53.1 in) as an option, and Zayer says it can work as a controlled axis or as a locked axis. Its guides are mounted at a 90º angle, which the maker credits with increasing rigidity and distributing loads.

The effect shows in one row. Maximum distance from table to spindle nose is 2,450 mm (96.5 in), or 2,700 mm (106.3 in) optional, where the THERA lists 1,740 mm (68.5 in). Parts that would not fit under the fixed-beam machine fit here, and low parts can still be cut with the beam down and the ram short.

The rest of the envelope is unchanged. X travel runs from 3,000 and 4,000 mm to 20,000 mm (787.4 in) and beyond. Y is 3,750 mm (147.6 in), with options to 5,750 mm (226.4 in). Z is 1,250 mm (49.2 in), with options to 2,000 mm (78.7 in). The fixed table is rated at 15,000 kg/m². Rapid feed is 30,000 mm/min (1,181 ipm) along the bed and 50,000 mm/min (1,969 ipm) on the cross and vertical axes, and positioning accuracy and repeatability are 0.008/4,000 mm and 0.005/4,000 mm.

Power is 43 kW (57.7 hp), 60 kW (80.5 hp) optional, with a 6,000 rpm spindle head. Change of heads is standard. Eight heads are listed, two fewer than on the THERA: the plain direct outlet head and both L shaped heads do not appear in the THERA W accessory table, while a direct outlet head with electrospindle does. The magazine holds 30 tools, with options to 120 and beyond, and pendulum work and an operator's platform are options.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How far does the THERA W cross beam move?

1,100 mm (43.3 in) as standard and 1,350 mm (53.1 in) as an option. Zayer describes the beam as able to work as a controlled axis or as a locked axis, with guides mounted at a 90º angle to increase rigidity and distribute loads.

02 How tall a part fits on the THERA W?

The maximum distance from table to spindle nose is 2,450 mm (96.5 in), with 2,700 mm (106.3 in) optional. Vertical ram travel is 1,250 mm (49.2 in), with 1,500, 1,750 or 2,000 mm (59.1, 68.9 or 78.7 in) optional.

03 What is the difference between the THERA W and the THERA?

The moving cross beam and the clearance it brings. The THERA has a fixed beam and lists 1,740 mm (68.5 in) from table to spindle nose. Travels in X, Y and Z, the feeds, the 43 kW (57.7 hp) rating and the 15,000 kg/m² table load are the same in both tables. The head lists differ slightly.

04 Which heads are available on the THERA W?

Eight are listed. The 45º head is standard. Optional are a continuous-rotation 45º head, a 30º head, two 30º heads with 33 kW electrospindles, a 40º head with a 42 kW, 15,000 rpm electrospindle, and direct outlet heads with reduction or with electrospindle.

05 What sizes is the THERA W built in?

X travel starts at 3,000 and 4,000 mm and continues to 20,000 mm (787.4 in) and beyond. Cross travel is 3,750 mm (147.6 in), with 4,250, 4,750, 5,250 or 5,750 mm (167.3, 187.0, 206.7 or 226.4 in) optional. The table is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) wide, or 3,000 or 4,000 mm (118.1 or 157.5 in).
