Overview
Röders calls the RXP500 a universal machine for medium-sized moulds and workpieces. In its 3-axis form it has a machining range of 500 mm x 455 mm x 240 mm (19.7 x 17.9 x 9.4 in) and a 550 mm x 450 mm (21.7 x 17.7 in) table that takes workpieces up to 400 kg (882 lb).
The standard spindle runs at 42,000 rpm with 14 kW (18.8 hp) and an HSK E40 interface, which is also the largest interface offered on this model. Maximum tool diameter is 16 mm. Compared with the RXP400, that is a step from micro-tools to the cutters a mould shop uses for semi-finishing and finishing steel inserts and electrodes.
Z is the short axis. With 240 mm of machining range in the third direction and 450 mm (17.7 in) between spindle nose and table, tall mould halves need checking against tool length before the job is quoted. The table has 14 mm T-slots at a distance of 50 mm.
21 tools sit in the standard linear changer; a chain changer with 35 or more places is optional and can be loaded during machining. Chips go into 2 chip boxes, or onto an optional conveyor. At about 6.0 t on W 2,710 mm x L 2,300 mm x H 2,350 mm the machine still fits a toolroom bay. The RXP line is the one with which Röders introduced its linear motor technology in 2004, and the maker calls it its most built series.
