Overview

The Quicktech T8-T / T6-T is the twin-spindle member of the maker's compact 45° slant-bed turret lathes. One column of the maker's table covers two spindle sizes, T8 and T6, and several rows carry two values in that order: bar capacity is 65 mm / 42 mm (2.6 in / 1.7 in), the spindle nose A2-6 / A2-5 and the spindle bore 66 mm / 43 mm (2.6 in / 1.7 in). Everything else, from the 400 mm (15.7 in) swing over the bed to the 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) weight, is common to both.

The letter T marks the sub-spindle. It is a small one: 30 mm (1.2 in) bar, a 26 mm (1.0 in) bore and an A2-4 nose, driven by a 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) servo spindle with 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) as the option. It travels on a Z2 axis of 360 mm to take the part from the main spindle. Quicktech's text for the twin version says the sub-spindle is there for back machining, and with a maximum turning diameter of 150 mm (5.9 in) it can hold chucked parts well beyond its bar size.

A BMT-55 power turret with 12 stations does the cutting. The table lists a C axis with a least command unit of 0.001° and a positioning accuracy of 0.02°, and the maker speaks of available live tooling, so drilled and milled features on either end can be done in the same cycle. There is no Y axis: both Y rows are blank.

Spindle power reads 11 kW (14.8 hp) for the larger size and 7.5 kW (10.1 hp) for the smaller, where 11 kW (14.8 hp) is optional. The speed line of the maker's feature list is 3,000 rpm (4,000 rpm) / 4,000 rpm (6,000 rpm), the bracketed figures being options. X1/Z1 travel is 200 mm / 320 mm (7.9 in / 12.6 in) and the control a Mitsubishi M80.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Sub-spindle with 150 mm (5.9 in) turning diameter and 100 mm (3.9 in) turning length for back machining
  • C axis listed with a 0.001° least command unit and 0.02° positioning accuracy
  • Two spindle sizes on one frame: bar capacity of 65 mm / 42 mm (2.6 in / 1.7 in)
  • Repetition accuracy of 0.005 mm (0.0002 in) and rapid feed of 30 m/min (1,181 ipm)
  • Small footprint: 2,600 mm / 3,200 mm (102.4 in / 126.0 in) long without and with chip conveyor

Limitations

  • No Y axis on either tool group
  • Sub-spindle bar capacity is only 30 mm (1.2 in) through a 26 mm (1.0 in) bore
  • Maximum turning length is 100 mm (3.9 in) on both spindles
  • The table lists no high-pressure coolant pump, and the coolant tank holds 125 L
06

Best For

Short turned parts that need the cut-off side faced, drilled or chamfered in the same cycle Bar work up to 65 mm / 42 mm (2.6 in / 1.7 in) depending on the spindle size ordered Mass production cells where a 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) machine has to fit a tight floor plan

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Why does the T8-T / T6-T page show two values in some rows?

The maker prints the two spindle sizes in one column. Rows that differ between them carry a pair in the order of the heading: bar capacity 65 mm / 42 mm (2.6 in / 1.7 in), chuck type KK6-185E60B / KK5-173E42B, spindle nose A2-6 / A2-5 and bore 66 mm / 43 mm (2.6 in / 1.7 in). Rows with one value apply to both.

02 What can the sub-spindle hold?

Its rows list a maximum turning diameter of 150 mm (5.9 in), a bar working diameter of 30 mm (1.2 in) and a turning length of 100 mm (3.9 in). The chuck type is KK4-163E30B on an A2-4 nose with a 26 mm (1.0 in) bore. Speed is 4,000 rpm, or 6,000 rpm as an option.

03 How does the T8-T / T6-T differ from the T8-M / T6-M?

Only the sub-spindle and its Z2 axis. The T8-M / T6-M column has the same main spindle, C axis and BMT-55 power turret but blank sub-spindle rows. Both columns give a machine weight of 3,500 kg (7,716 lb).

04 What spindle speed and power are listed?

The feature list gives 3,000 rpm (4,000 rpm) / 4,000 rpm (6,000 rpm) and the motor row gives Servo Spindle 11 kW (14.8 hp) / 7.5 kW (10.1 hp), with 11 kW (14.8 hp) optional on the smaller size. The spindle-speed row inside the table is printed with a bracket missing, so the feature list is the cleaner source.
