How much does the Quicktech i-42 ECO cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Quicktech i-42 ECO that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Quicktech calls the i-42 ECO an alternative to a turret-type C-axis lathe, and that is the right way to read it: one spindle, one gang slide with X, Y and Z, and no second system. Bar capacity is 42 mm (1.7 in) as standard and the travels are 150 / 410 / 250 mm (5.9 / 16.1 / 9.8 in) in X1/Y1/Z1. At 3,780 kg (8,333 lb) it is the lightest machine in the i-42 line.
The argument for gang tooling is chip-to-chip time. Tools sit side by side on the slide, so the next tool arrives by a short Y or X move with no turret index. The 410 mm of Y stroke in the travel row is what makes room for the tool row. The maker says this layout will generally outperform turret machines on cycle time. The cost is clearance: every tool on the slide passes near the part, so long boring bars and large part diameters need care in setup. Maximum turning diameter is 100 mm (3.9 in).
Three tooling arrangements appear on the maker's page. The standard i-42 Eco comes with 11 OD and 9 ID tools for turning. The Eco M is described with 6 live tools and C-axis control. The Eco B carries a milling head with 12 motorized tools that rotates through 360 degrees. Live tools take ER-20 collets, run to 4,000 rpm and drill up to 12.0 mm (0.5 in).
The spindle is a cartridge unit on P4 bearings, with 7.5 kW (10.1 hp) as standard and 11.0 kW (14.8 hp) optional. Speed is 4,000 rpm, or 6,000 rpm as an option. A Mitsubishi M80 runs the machine. The coolant tank holds 125 L, and no sub-spindle or high-pressure pump appears in this model's table.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Gang slide with 150 / 410 / 250 mm (5.9 / 16.1 / 9.8 in) of X1/Y1/Z1 travel and no turret index between tools
- Three tooling versions on one frame: 11 OD and 9 ID turning tools, 6 live tools with C-axis, or a 12-tool milling head
- Cartridge spindle on P4 high precision bearings, as the maker describes it
- Lightest i-42 model at 3,780 kg (8,333 lb)
- 35mm HIWIN linear guideways throughout
Limitations
- No sub-spindle: the cut-off side has to be finished in another operation
- Standard spindle power is 7.5 kW (10.1 hp), with 11.0 kW (14.8 hp) only as an option
- Maximum turning diameter of 100 mm (3.9 in) and turning length of 230 mm (9.1 in)
- The maker's table labels the tool-count columns of this page with another model's name, so tool counts should be confirmed on the quotation

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The maker's page shows three. The standard i-42 Eco comes with a 42mm spindle and 11 OD and 9 ID tools for turning. The i-42 Eco M is described as packed with 6 live tools and C-axis control. The i-42 Eco B has a milling head with 12 motorized tools and 360 degrees of continuous rotation.
02
Because the tools are mounted in a row and reached by a slide move, there is no indexing time between them. Quicktech states that the design allows rapid chip to chip times that will generally out perform turret type machines. The trade-off is that every tool on the slide has to clear the part, which limits part diameter; this model lists 100 mm (3.9 in).
03
42 mm (1.7 in) bar with a 43 mm (1.7 in) spindle bore and an A2-5 nose as standard. The listed option is 65 mm (2.6 in) bar with a 66 mm (2.6 in) bore and an A2-6 nose. Spindle speed is 4,000 rpm, or 6,000 rpm as an option.
04
The i-42 ECO has a single tool system. The i-42 PLUS adds a second slide with X2 and Z2 travel so that two tools cut at once, and weighs 4,780 kg (10,538 lb) against 3,780 kg (8,333 lb) for the i-42 ECO. Spindle, bar capacity, control and first-system travel are the same in both tables.
