Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Quicktech i-42 PLUS that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Quicktech i-42 PLUS is a single-spindle gang-tooling lathe with a second, independent tool slide, so two tools can cut the same part at once. Quicktech says the machine runs two NC programs simultaneously. Bar capacity is 42 mm (1.7 in), or 65 mm (2.6 in) as an option, and the maximum turning length is 230 mm (9.1 in).
There is no sub-spindle on this model. The second axis group has X2 and Z2 travel, printed as 250 / ---- / 320 mm (9.8 / ---- / 12.6 in) for X2/Y2/Z2, and works on the part held in the main spindle. According to the maker, simultaneous machining is possible from the outside as well as from the inside, and depending on the work piece the working time can be reduced up to 50%. In practice that means roughing an outside diameter with one slide while the other drills or bores.
Three versions share the page, and the table splits two rows between them. OD/ID tools read I-42 Plus: 11 / 9; I-42 Plus M: 6 / 5; I-42 Plus B: 6 / 5. Motorized tools read I-42 Plus: 0; I-42 Plus M: 6; I-42 Plus B: 12. The base machine is therefore a pure turning machine, the M version adds live tools, and the B version has the most live tools at the cost of fixed turning positions. Live tools use ER-20 collets, run to 4,000 rpm and are driven by an AC Servo 1.5 kW (2.0 hp) motor.
The standard spindle is a 7.5 kW (10.1 hp) servo spindle, with 11.0 kW (14.8 hp) as the option. First-system travel is 150 / 410 / 250 mm (5.9 / 16.1 / 9.8 in). The control is a Mitsubishi M80 and the machine weighs 4,780 kg (10,538 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Second tool slide with X2 and Z2 travel for two tools in the cut at once
- Runs two NC programs simultaneously, as the maker states
- Version choice by tooling: I-42 Plus: 0; I-42 Plus M: 6; I-42 Plus B: 12 motorized tools
- Maker's claim that working time can be reduced up to 50%, depending on the work piece
- Rapid feed of 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) on a 4,780 kg (10,538 lb) machine
Limitations
- No sub-spindle, so the cut-off end needs a second operation
- The standard spindle motor is 7.5 kW (10.1 hp); 11.0 kW (14.8 hp) is an option
- The second axis group has no Y2 travel
- The base version lists 0 motorized tools, so milling and cross-drilling need the M or B version
- Coolant tank is 125 L and the table lists no high-pressure pump for this model

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It lets two tools work on the part at the same time. The table gives the second group as 250 / ---- / 320 mm (9.8 / ---- / 12.6 in) for X2/Y2/Z2, and Quicktech says simultaneous machining is possible from the outside as well as from the inside, with two NC programs running simultaneously.
02
Tooling. The OD/ID tool row reads I-42 Plus: 11 / 9; I-42 Plus M: 6 / 5; I-42 Plus B: 6 / 5 and the motorized tool row reads I-42 Plus: 0; I-42 Plus M: 6; I-42 Plus B: 12. Every other row of the table is shared by the three versions.
03
No. All sub-spindle rows of the table are blank for this model. In the i-42 line the i-42 Twin and the i-42 Ultimate are the models with a sub-spindle; the i-42 Twin lists it at 30 mm (1.2 in) bar capacity.
