Overview

The Johnford ST-160BX is a four-metre turret lathe with 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of swing over the bed, and it shares its name with one of Johnford's turn-mill machines.

The ST-160BX+B+C+Y has the same bed length, 4,000 mm (157.5 in) between centers, the same A2-11 spindle with a 132.5 mm (5.2 in) bore, 2,000 rpm and 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp). In place of the turret, the ST-160BX+B+C+Y carries a B-axis milling/turning spindle and a magazine of 80 tools, and the table lists it at 55,000 kg (121,252 lb). The lathe on this page weighs 24,300 kg (53,460 lb).

Between the two there is a range of intermediate equipment for the lathe: a 0.001° C axis, a 12-position live tool turret in VDI or BMT, a Y axis of ±75 mm (±3 in), and a B-axis spindle listed as an option.

As a turning machine it offers 4,050 mm (159.4 in) of Z travel, 520 mm (20.5 in) of X travel and 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of swing over the cross slide. The tailstock travels 3,600 mm (141.7 in) and has a Ø200 mm (7.9 in) MT#7 quill. Outside dimensions are 9,926 x 2,895 x 3,205 mm (390.8 x 114 x 126.2 in).
