Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Quicktech i-42 Twin that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Quicktech i-42 Twin is a gang-tooling bar lathe with a main spindle, a sub-spindle and one shared tool system. It takes 42 mm (1.7 in) bar, or 65 mm (2.6 in) as an option, and turns up to 300 mm (11.8 in) long on the main spindle. That is the longest turning length in the i-42 line; the i-42 Ultimate lists 230 mm (9.1 in).
Here the sub-spindle is a pick-off and back-working unit, not a second machining station with its own cross slide. The table shows a Z2 travel of 390 mm and no X2 or Y2 figure, so the sub-spindle moves along the bed to take the part and then presents it to fixed back-working tools. It handles 30 mm (1.2 in) bar and 150 mm (5.9 in) of turning length on a 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) servo spindle.
The main tool system travels 150 / 415 / 300 mm (5.9 / 16.3 / 11.8 in) in X1/Y1/Z1. Quicktech says the flexible tooling system comes with 9 standard external tools, 9 internal tools and 12 live tools, and puts the total at 30 tools. The 12 motorized tools sit on a tilting milling head that the maker describes as rotating through 360°; the page also shows the machine without the B axis, so check which head is quoted.
Main spindle power is 11.0 kW (14.8 hp), fitted as standard on this model. Guideways are 35mm HIWIN linear rails. The control is a Mitsubishi M80, a 25 bar pump backs up the 5 bar coolant pump, and the machine weighs 5,300 kg (11,684 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 300 mm (11.8 in) maximum turning length on the main spindle, the longest of the i-42 models
- Sub-spindle with 150 mm (5.9 in) turning length for back-end work in the same cycle
- Maker's tooling count of 9 external tools, 9 internal tools and 12 live tools
- 11.0 kW (14.8 hp) main spindle as standard
- 12 motorized tools on ER-20 collets at up to 4,000 rpm
Limitations
- The second system has Z2 travel only, so back-end work is limited to what fixed tools can reach
- Sub-spindle bar capacity is 30 mm (1.2 in) on 3.7 kW (5.0 hp)
- Standard spindle speed is 4,000 rpm; 6,000 rpm is an option
- The motor row for the motorized tools is printed incompletely on the maker's page, so live-tool power needs confirming

Frequently Asked Questions
01
No. The i-42 Twin's table lists full travel for X1/Y1/Z1, 150 / 415 / 300 mm (5.9 / 16.3 / 11.8 in), but only a Z2 figure for the second group. The i-42 Ultimate lists 450 / 380 / 300 mm (17.7 / 15.0 / 11.8 in) for X2/Y2/Z2 and motorized tools as T1=12 / T2=12. The i-42 Twin lists 12 motorized tools.
02
Quicktech describes the tooling system as 9 standard external tools, 9 internal tools and 12 live tools, and speaks of 30 tools. The spec table shows OD/ID tools of 6 / 5 for the main spindle, a □ 20 mm shank size and ER-20 / Ø20 mm drill holders.
03
The sub-spindle takes 30 mm (1.2 in) bar through a 31 mm (1.2 in) bore, with a maximum turning diameter of 100 mm (3.9 in) and a turning length of 150 mm (5.9 in). It is a 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) servo spindle with an A2-5 nose and runs to 4,000 rpm, or 6,000 rpm as an option.
04
The table lists a Mitsubishi M80. Rapid feed is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) in the table, although the guideway text on the same page mentions feed velocities of 20m/ min; ask Quicktech which figure applies.
