Overview

The Pinnacle LV159 starts the large LV group: 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of X, 900 mm (35.4 in) of Y and 850 mm (33.5 in) of Z, with a 1,700 x 850 mm (66.9 x 33.5 in) table that takes 2,000 kg (4,409 lb). At 14,000 kg (30,864 lb) it is a different class of machine from the LV147 below it.

The guideway layout is mixed. Pinnacle lists linear ways on X and Y and a box way on Z, with a linear Z as an option. A box-way Z damps heavy cuts along the spindle axis, and it explains the modest Z rapid: 24 / 24 / 16 m/min. The head is balanced by a counterweight that travels on a guide shaft, and the three axes use 50mm class C3 ball screws.

Power follows the taper. The ISO40 spindle has 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp); the ISO50 spindle has 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) with a 2,000 kgf draw bar. Belt speeds are 40 ~ 8,000(10,000/12,000) rpm for ISO40 and 40 ~ 6,000(8,000) rpm for ISO50.

In the ISO50 column the magazine reads DISK / CHAIN with 24 / 32 tools, each up to 350 mm (13.8 in) long and 15 kg (33 lb). Services are substantial: 40 kVA, a 700 L coolant tank and 4,050 x 2,900 mm (159.4 x 114.2 in) of floor under a machine 3,200 mm (126.0 in) tall.

Limitations

  • Z rapid is 16 m/min, well below the 24 m/min of X and Y
  • Needs 40 kVA, 4,050 x 2,900 mm (159.4 x 114.2 in) of floor and 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of height
  • ISO40 magazine is limited to 24 tools of Ø90 mm (Ø3.5 in)

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What guideways does the Pinnacle LV159 use?

Pinnacle lists linear ways on the X and Y axes and a box way on Z, with a linear way Z offered as an option. The page also describes roller guideways and 50mm class C3 ball screws on the three axes.

02 What is the work envelope of the LV159?

Travels are 1,500 mm (59.1 in) in X, 900 mm (35.4 in) in Y and 850 mm (33.5 in) in Z. The spindle nose is 100 ~ 950 mm (3.9 ~ 37.4 in) from the 1,700 x 850 mm (66.9 x 33.5 in) table, which carries 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).

03 How is the spindle head balanced on the LV159?

By a counterweight. Pinnacle says the counter-balance weight moves on a guide shaft for stability and straightness, and cites patents for the system in Taiwan and China. It is aimed at surface finish in mould machining.

04 Which spindle is more powerful on the LV159, ISO40 or ISO50?

ISO50. Its motor is 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) against 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp) for ISO40. The ISO50 belt drive runs 40 ~ 6,000(8,000) rpm, while ISO40 reaches 40 ~ 8,000(10,000/12,000) rpm, so the choice is torque against speed.
