Overview

The Pinnacle LV85 is the smallest of the linear-way LV vertical machining centers: 850 mm (33.5 in) of X travel, 560 mm (22.0 in) in Y and Z, and an ISO40 spindle driven by a 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) motor. The table measures 1,000 x 510 mm (39.4 x 20.1 in) and carries 600 kg (1,323 lb).

Pinnacle's table gives three ways to drive the spindle. The belt version runs 60 ~ 8,000(10,000/12,000) rpm, a two-range gear head covers the same 8,000 rpm ceiling with a low range for torque, and direct-drive spindles are listed at 10,000 / 12,000 / 15,000 rpm. Which of these a given machine has is decided at order, so the headline speed on a quotation needs checking against the work.

All three axes run on linear guideways, 35mm wide on this size, with 36mm class C3 ball screws. Rapids are 36 / 36 / 24 m/min and the cutting feed tops out at 10,000 mm/min. The magazine row shows a 24-tool disk with tools up to Ø90 mm (Ø3.5 in).

At 5,500 kg (12,125 lb) on a 2,600 x 2,230 mm (102.4 x 87.8 in) floor space with a 20 kVA supply, it is a machine for shops that are short on room. The LV105 on the same page stretches X to 1,020 mm (40.2 in) and steps the motor up to 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp), so the LV85 makes sense when parts fit inside 850 mm and the lighter motor is enough.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Compact footprint: 2,600 x 2,230 mm (102.4 x 87.8 in) floor space and a 20 kVA power requirement
  • Spindle can be ordered belt-driven, gear-driven or direct-drive, the last listed at 10,000 / 12,000 / 15,000 rpm
  • Rapids of 36 / 36 / 24 m/min on linear guideways in all three axes
  • Controls from five makers are listed, including MITSUBISHI M80 / M830 and FANUC 0i-MF / 31i-MB

Limitations

  • The 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) motor is the smallest in the LV85/LV105 pair, which limits heavy roughing
  • Coolant through spindle, the 20 bar pump and the chip conveyor are all marked as options
  • Table load stops at 600 kg (1,323 lb), so heavy fixtures plus a fourth axis need adding up first

Best For

Small and medium parts inside 850 mm (33.5 in) of X travel Job shops with limited floor space and a 20 kVA supply Aluminium and light steel work on an ISO40 spindle

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the Pinnacle LV85?

X is 850 mm (33.5 in), Y is 560 mm (22.0 in) and Z is 560 mm (22.0 in). The table is 1,000 x 510 mm (39.4 x 20.1 in) and the spindle nose sits 100 ~ 660 mm (3.9 ~ 26.0 in) above it.

02 Which spindle speeds can the LV85 be built with?

Pinnacle lists a belt-driven spindle at 60 ~ 8,000(10,000/12,000) rpm, a gear-driven one with low and high ranges up to 8,000 rpm, and direct-drive spindles at 10,000 / 12,000 / 15,000 rpm. The taper is ISO40 in every case and the motor is 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp).

03 How does the LV85 differ from the LV105?

The LV105 has 1,020 mm (40.2 in) of X travel on a 1,200 x 510 mm (47.2 x 20.1 in) table and a 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp) motor. Y, Z, the 600 kg table load and the 24-tool magazine are the same on both, and the LV85 is the lighter machine at 5,500 kg (12,125 lb).

04 Which CNC controls are offered on the LV85?

The page lists MITSUBISHI M80 / M830, FANUC 0i-MF / 31i-MB, HEIDENHAIN TNC620 / TNC640, SIEMENS 828D / 840D and FAGOR 8055i Plus / 8060FL / 8060. The axis motors change with the control, so confirm the pairing when ordering.
