Overview
The Palmary OCD-42150 takes the OCD-42 CNC cylindrical grinder to 1,500 mm (59.1 in) between centers. It keeps the Ø420 mm (16.5 in) swing and Ø400 mm (15.7 in) grinding diameter of the family and adds a larger workhead motor for the longer parts it will see.
That motor is 2 kW (2.7 hp), against 1.5 kW on the OCD-42100. Spindle speed is still 10 to 300 rpm. On a part a metre and a half long, steady rotation under a driving dog matters more than top speed, and Palmary offers cam locked driving dogs as an option.
The table strokes 1,805 mm (71.1 in) at 10 m/min (394 ipm). At that rate repositioning is quick, so traverse grinding time on this bed is governed by feed. The table swivels -3° to +8°, like the OCD-42100. The wheelhead stroke is 260 mm (10.2 in) with a linear scale as standard.
One figure does not grow with the bed: the 150 kg (331 lb) load between centers. Long parts for this machine therefore need to be slender or hollow, and slender parts need support, which is what the optional 2-point and 3-point steady rests are for. The wheel is Ø405 mm on 5.5 kW (7.4 hp), in hybrid hydro-static bearings. With FANUC control and enclosure the machine weighs 5,000 kg (11,023 lb).
