Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SYIL D6 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SYIL D6 is a CNC external cylindrical grinder for shafts up to 330 mm (13.0 in) in grinding diameter and 600 mm (23.6 in) in grinding length, held between centers set 650 mm (25.6 in) apart. SYIL describes it as a platform for precision shafts and smaller components such as punches and surgical equipment, and it is the only grinding machine in a range otherwise made up of mills and lathes.
The wheel is large for a machine of this size. It measures 610 mm on the outside diameter with a 203.2 mm bore and takes widths from 25 to 100 mm, driven by an 11 kW (14.8 hp) spindle motor. Wheel cutting speed is 60 m/s, with 100 m/s as an option. SYIL says the wheel head uses a dynamic and static pressure system that keeps an oil film around the spindle; it has its own 30 L (7.9 gal) oil tank.
Workholding is flexible. The workhead runs from 10 to 1,000 rpm on a 2 kW (2.7 hp) motor and can grind with a live spindle or between dead centers, using an MT5 center. The tailstock has an MT4 center in a 58 mm (2.3 in) sleeve. One limit matters more than the others: a part between centers may weigh 60 kg (132 lb) without a steady rest.
Both plunge and angular wheel feed are listed. The X axis travels 400 mm (15.7 in) and the Z axis 700 mm (27.6 in), each on a V-flat guide rail with a 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) servo motor and a 16 m/min (630 ipm) quick feed. The smallest feed step is 0.001 mm.
Control is the Siemens SINUMERIK 828D. For closed-loop size control SYIL offers a MARPOSS P1Dme in-process OD gauge and a MARPOSS T18 touch probe as options, along with an SBS AE1000 acoustic system for collision prevention. The machine weighs 5,200 kg (11,464 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Grinds diameters up to 330 mm (13.0 in) over a 600 mm (23.6 in) length
- 11 kW (14.8 hp) wheel spindle with a 610 mm wheel in widths from 25 to 100 mm
- Workhead grinds with a live spindle or between dead centers
- Plunge and angular wheel feed with a minimum increment of 0.001 mm
- MARPOSS in-process gauging and touch probe available as options
- Siemens SINUMERIK 828D as standard
Limitations
- Workpiece weight between centers is limited to 60 kg (132 lb) without a steady rest
- External grinding only: SYIL lists no internal grinding spindle for the D6
- The 100 m/s wheel speed is an option; the standard figure is 60 m/s
- In-process gauge, touch probe and collision prevention system are extras
- At 3,015 × 2,200 × 1,867 mm and 5,200 kg (11,464 lb) it needs more floor than SYIL's small mills

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Maximum grinding diameter is 330 mm (13.0 in) and maximum grinding length is 600 mm (23.6 in). Swing diameter is 350 mm (13.8 in) and the distance between centers is 650 mm (25.6 in). A workpiece held between centers can weigh up to 60 kg (132 lb) when no center steady rest is used.
02
SYIL gives the wheel dimensions as 610 × (25–100) × 203.2 mm (outer × thickness × inner). The wheel spindle motor is 11 kW (14.8 hp), and the cutting speed at the wheel is 60 m/s as standard with 100 m/s optional. Feed can be plunge or angular.
03
Yes. SYIL states that the workpiece headstock accommodates both live spindle grinding and two-center clamping grinding, and lists the workhead type as Fixed center/Live center with an MT5 taper. Workhead speed is 10 to 1,000 rpm. The tailstock carries an MT4 center and its sleeve travels 35 mm (1.4 in).
04
The options list has a MARPOSS P1Dme in-process OD gauge, a MARPOSS T18 touch probe, an SBS AE1000 audio collision prevention system and a Filtermist S800 mist collector. They are options, so a base D6 should be assumed to come without in-process gauging.
05
SYIL lists a bench rotation angle of 4 and 9 degrees (clockwise/counter clockwise). It also says cylindricity can be finely adjusted at the tailstock during grinding between centers. For steeper tapers, check with SYIL how the angular wheel feed is set up.
