Overview
The Palmary OCD-3240 is the short-bed member of the OCD-32 family, a CNC cylindrical grinder with Ø320 mm (12.6 in) of swing over the table and 400 mm (15.7 in) between centers. It grinds up to Ø300 mm (11.8 in) and takes 150 kg (331 lb) between No. 4 Morse taper centers.
Short does not mean cramped along Z. The table stroke is 665 mm (26.2 in) against the 400 mm center distance, which leaves room to run the wheel clear of the part for dressing on the tailstock-mounted diamond holder that comes as standard. The wheelhead has 260 mm (10.2 in) of X stroke. Both axes rapid at 10 m/min (394 ipm).
Of the three OCD-32 lengths this one has the widest table swivel, 0° to 12°. The OCD-3260 gives 0° to 10°, so steep tapers on short parts are the case for the OCD-3240. The workhead swivels from -30° to +90° and turns at 10 to 300 rpm on a 1 kW (1.3 hp) servo motor.
The wheel is Ø405 mm, 50 to 75 mm wide, on a 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) motor, and the spindle runs in hybrid hydro-static bearings. Standard accessories include the FANUC CNC controller, a fully enclosed splash guard, a micro adjustment tailstock and a linear scale for the X axis. Total power is 18 kVA and the machine weighs 3,300 kg (7,275 lb), the lightest of the 32 family.
