Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Nexturn SA38PYII that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Nexturn SA38PYII is the top of the PY type: 38 mm (1.5 in) bar, eight axes with Y2, 24 tools and a headstock that works with or without a guide bush. Main and sub spindle both run to 8,000 rpm.
For a bar this thick, the non guide bush mode may be the one used most. The table gives 210 mm (8.3 in) of turning length with N: 80 mm (3.1 in) noted beside it, the same pair as the SA32PYII. Stock of 38 mm is stiff enough over a short overhang to be turned straight from the collet, and doing so shortens the remnant left at the end of each bar. Guide-bush mode stays available for the long shafts.
Five tools separate this machine from the SA38PII, which lists 19. One comes from the fifth cross spindle of the PYII cross station. The other four come from the back end, where the table shows eight tools, Live 4 and Fixed 4, against four on the PII type. As elsewhere in the PY type, the bigger back station runs on a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) motor with a 10 mm (0.4 in) and M8 limit. Only one front-end face tool is listed for the sub spindle, and it is fixed.
The main spindle motor is 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp), the sub spindle 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp). For a three-path layout at this bar size Nexturn has the SA38XIII, which runs eleven axes under a FANUC 31i-B; the SA38PYII keeps to the simpler FANUC 0iTF and weighs 3,600 kg (7,937 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 38 mm (1.5 in) capacity with both guide bush and non guide bush operation
- Y2 axis and up to eight back-end tools for work on the cut-off side
- 24 tools, five more than the SA38PII
- 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) cross unit with cross drilling to 12 mm (0.5 in) and M10
- Same compact envelope as the smaller PY machines
Limitations
- Back-end drilling stops at 10 mm (0.4 in) and M8 on a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) drive
- A single fixed front-end face tool for the sub spindle
- 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) on the main spindle is modest for 38 mm stock
- 210 mm (8.3 in) of guide-bush stroke, where the SA38PII has 250 mm (9.8 in)

Frequently Asked Questions
01
For short parts. The brochure says the non guide bush type reduces the bar remnant and suits drawn bar, while the guide bush type is for precision on long parts. The table lists 210 mm (8.3 in) of turning length and N: 80 mm (3.1 in), the latter being the figure to check for non guide bush work.
02
The SA38PYII is an eight-axis, two-path machine with a FANUC 0iTF and 24 tools. The SA38XIII is an eleven-axis machine with three tool channels, a FANUC 31i-B and 270 mm (10.6 in) of turning length. Both take 38 mm (1.5 in) bar and use a 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) main spindle.
03
The table lists eight back-end face tools, Live 4 and Fixed 4, plus one fixed front-end face tool on the sub spindle side. Eight is the optional back tool unit. The standard PYII unit has two live and two fixed tools, and an optional back-end face cross unit is also offered.
04
8,000 rpm on the main spindle and 8,000 rpm on the sub spindle, 6,000 rpm on the cross spindles and 5,000 rpm at the back-end tool station. Rapid traverse is 32 m/min and the programmable feedrate range is 1~6,000 mm/min.
