How much does the Nexturn SA20PYII cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Nexturn SA20PYII that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
With 27 tools on eight axes, the Nexturn SA20PYII carries more tooling than any other machine in the P and PY range. It is a 20 mm (0.8 in) Swiss-type automatic lathe that Nexturn builds to run either through a guide bush or without one, and it has a second Y axis for the sub spindle side.
The convertible headstock is the point of the PY type. With the guide bush fitted the table gives 210 mm (8.3 in) of turning length, and beside it the note N: 60 mm (2.4 in). The brochure explains the two modes: the guide bush type is meant for precision work on long parts, and the non guide bush type is meant to shorten the bar remnant and to accept drawn bar. Read N as the non guide bush figure and confirm it when ordering, since the table itself does not spell the letter out.
Tooling is where the PYII pulls away from the SA20PII. The cross station has five positions, Modular 3 and Live 2, where the PII type has four. The back-end tool station is listed with eight tools, Live 4 and Fixed 4. Add six OD tools, five Y-axis ID tools and three front-end face tools for the sub spindle and the total reaches 27, against 23 on the SA20PII. Eight back-end tools is the optional unit, though; the PYII standard is Live 2, Fixed 2.
Spindle figures match the SA20PII: 10,000 rpm on the main spindle, 8,000 rpm on the sub spindle, 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp) and 1.5 / 2.2 kW (2.0 / 3.0 hp). The back-end tool station is rated 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) and its spindles 5,000 rpm.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 27 tools, the highest count in Nexturn's P and PY table
- Eight axes including Y2, so off-centre work can be done at the sub spindle
- Exchangeable guide bush and non guide bush system on one machine
- 5 spindle cross drill unit is standard on the PYII type (Modular 3, Live 2)
- 10,000 rpm main spindle for small-diameter stock
Limitations
- Guide-bush turning length is 210 mm (8.3 in), shorter than the 250 mm (9.8 in) of the SA20PII
- The eight-tool back unit (Live 4, Fixed 4) is an option; the standard PYII back unit is Live 2, Fixed 2
- Back-end face drilling is limited to 8 mm (0.3 in) and M6
- Sub spindle speed is 8,000 rpm against 10,000 rpm on the main spindle

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Yes. Nexturn describes the PYII type as an exchangeable guide bush and non guide bush system. The table lists a turning length of 210 mm (8.3 in) and adds N: 60 mm (2.4 in), which reads as the non guide bush value. The brochure says the non guide bush setup is there to minimise the bar remnant.
02
It gives the tools that work on the sub spindle their own Y movement. The axis designation is X1, Z1, Y1, X2, Z2, Y2, C1, C2, eight axes in all, where the SA20PII stops at seven with no Y2. With Cs control on both spindles, that allows off-centre drilling and milling on the back of the part.
03
Six OD tools, five cross live positions and five Y-axis ID tools on the main side, three front-end face tools for the sub spindle (Live 2, Fixed 1) and eight back-end face tools (Live 4, Fixed 4). The eight-position back unit is on the option list, so a machine with the standard back unit carries fewer.
04
The cross drill and mill unit has a 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) motor and a top speed of 6,000 rpm, and takes drills to 10 mm (0.4 in) and M8 taps. The back-end tool station is rated 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) with a maximum spindle speed of 5,000 rpm. Revolving tools are held in ER16 collets.
