How much does the Nexturn SA38PII cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Nexturn SA38PII that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Nexturn SA38PII puts 38 mm (1.5 in) bar through a machine no bigger than the SA20PII. It is the largest bar size in the P line, a seven-axis Swiss-type automatic lathe with 250 mm (9.8 in) of turning length, 8,000 rpm spindles and 19 tools.
That shared frame size explains most of the table. Length, width and height are 2,100 × 1,165 × 1,660 mm (82.7 × 45.9 × 65.4 in), identical to the SA20PII, and only the weight moves, to 3,600 kg (7,937 lb). The motors are those of the SA26PII and SA32PII: 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) on the main spindle and 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp) on the built-in sub spindle. Nothing is added for the bigger bar, so on a full 38 mm cut the SA38PII has less power in hand for each millimetre of diameter than the SA26PII does.
Tool count goes the other way from bar size. The SA38PII lists 19 tools, the fewest in the P and PY table, because the front-end face group for the sub spindle shrinks to a single fixed tool. The rest follows the PII pattern: five OD tools on □16 × 120 mm (0.6 × 4.7 in) shanks, four cross live tools, five Y-axis ID tools and four back-end tools.
Drilling capacity does not grow with the bar either. The main spindle, the cross unit and the back-end station are all listed at 12 mm (0.5 in) and M10, and the largest cross disc mill is 40 mm (1.6 in), barely over the bar diameter. Deep or large bores in 38 mm stock will be the limiting operation on this machine.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 38 mm (1.5 in) bar capacity in a 2,100 × 1,165 × 1,660 mm (82.7 × 45.9 × 65.4 in) machine
- 250 mm (9.8 in) of turning length with a synchronous rotary guide bush
- 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) on both the cross drill and mill unit and the back-end face tools
- Sub spindle chucks the full 38 mm (1.5 in) and has a 2.2 / 3.7 kW (3.0 / 5.0 hp) built-in motor
- Power chucking toggle system and pneumatic spindle brakes on both spindles
Limitations
- 19 tools, the lowest count in the P and PY table
- Only one front-end face tool for the sub spindle, and it is fixed
- The 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) main motor is the same one fitted to the SA26PII
- On-centre drilling is limited to 12 mm (0.5 in) and M10 despite the larger bar

Frequently Asked Questions
01
No. All four bar sizes share 2,100 × 1,165 × 1,660 mm (82.7 × 45.9 × 65.4 in). The SA38PII is the heaviest of them at 3,600 kg (7,937 lb), where the SA20PII is 3,300 kg (7,275 lb). Coolant capacity is 280 L and centre height 1,000 mm (39.4 in) throughout.
02
The difference is in the front-end face tools for the sub spindle. The SA38PII lists one fixed tool there and the SA32PII lists two, which takes the total from 20 down to 19. The OD, cross, Y-axis ID and back-end groups are the same on both.
03
12 mm (0.5 in), with tapping to M10. The table gives that same limit for the main spindle, for cross drilling and for back-end face drilling. Cross spindles turn at up to 6,000 rpm and the back-end tool station at up to 5,000 rpm.

Nexturn's current P-line brochure lists the 38 mm machine as the SA38PII and the SA38PYII. The figures on this page are those of the PII column: seven axes, 19 tools, 250 mm (9.8 in) of turning length and a 5.5 / 7.5 kW (7.4 / 10.1 hp) main spindle.
