Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Monforts DNC 500 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Two spindles face each other and two turrets work between them: the Monforts DNC 500 DuoTurn is a counter-spindle CNC lathe that Monforts describes as two turning machines integrated in one compact concept. Turning length is 600 mm (23.6 in), with 560 mm (22.0 in) of swing over the bed and 390 mm (15.4 in) over the cross slide.
The machine works in two ways. In compound operation the part is turned, drilled or milled on one side, handed from one spindle to the other and finished from the back without an operator touching it. In single machine operation each side runs its own job independently. Monforts gives each side its own hydrostatic guide system and states that the two do not influence each other, which is the point of the layout: a heavy cut on one spindle should not show up in the finish on the other.
Unlike the RNC DuoTurn models, where the counter spindle is the smaller of the two, the DNC 500 table gives a single spindle specification: an A8 nose, a draw tube of 86 mm (3.4 in) inside diameter and 4,000 rpm. With Siemens the drive is 28 kW (37.5 hp) at 100% ED and 434 Nm (320 lb-ft); with Fanuc it is 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) and 346 Nm (255 lb-ft).
Both turrets are 12 x VDI 40 and tool drive on both is standard, with 12 driven tools at up to 4,000 rpm. Driven tool power is 12 kW (16.1 hp) with Siemens and 13.7 kW (18.4 hp) with Fanuc at 25% ED. The table lists no Y-axis and no optional versions at all, so what is printed is the machine.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Two spindles and two 12 x VDI 40 turrets for finishing both sides of a part without operator intervention
- Tool drive on both turrets is standard, with 12 driven tools at up to 4,000 rpm
- Two independent hydrostatic guide systems that, as Monforts states, do not influence each other
- A8 nose and 86 mm (3.4 in) draw tube with 28 kW (37.5 hp) at 100% ED on Siemens
- Can run as two separate machines in single machine operation
Limitations
- Turning length is 600 mm (23.6 in), so it is a chucker and short-shaft machine
- The table lists no Y-axis for the DNC 500
- With Fanuc the main drive drops to 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) and 346 Nm (255 lb-ft)
- Swing over the cross slide is 390 mm (15.4 in), less than the 425 mm (16.7 in) of the RNC 500

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A CNC lathe with two spindles and two tool turrets. Monforts describes it as two high-performance turning machines in one compact machine: the right and left sides of the workpiece are turned, drilled or milled without operator intervention. Turning length is 600 mm (23.6 in) and swing over the bed 560 mm (22.0 in).
02
The RNC 500 DuoTurn is a 1,000 mm (39.4 in) lathe with an A8 main spindle and a smaller A6 counter spindle. The DNC 500 has 600 mm (23.6 in) of turning length, two turrets with tool drive as standard, and a separate hydrostatic guide system for each side.
03
The table gives an A8 nose to DIN 55026, a draw tube of 86 mm (3.4 in) inside diameter and 4,000 rpm. With Siemens the drive is 28 kW (37.5 hp) at 100% ED with 434 Nm (320 lb-ft) of maximum torque. With Fanuc it is 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) and 346 Nm (255 lb-ft).
04
Yes. Monforts lists tool drive on both turrets as standard. Each turret is 12 x VDI 40 with 12 driven tools, rated 12 kW (16.1 hp) with Siemens or 13.7 kW (18.4 hp) with Fanuc at 25% ED, and up to 4,000 rpm with either control.
05
Yes. Monforts describes two modes. In compound operation workpieces are transferred from one spindle to the other. In single machine operation each side works independently of the other, so two different parts can be in the cut at once.
