Overview

The Takamaz XTL-8MYS is a full-capability multi-tasking CNC lathe featuring an 8-inch main spindle, 6-inch sub-spindle, Y-axis, and live tooling — the most versatile machine in Takamaz's compact production lathe lineup. The addition of a sub-spindle to the XTL platform enables complete part machining with backworking capability, eliminating the need for second-operation setups on parts that require machining on both ends.

The main spindle runs at 4,000 RPM with a 100 mm bearing bore, while the sub-spindle also delivers 4,000 RPM through a 75 mm bearing bore with 7.5/5.5 kW of power. The main spindle motor output of 5.5/3.7/2.2 kW may seem modest, but Takamaz has optimized the drivetrain for the high-speed, light-cut turning cycles typical of production environments. The 12-station turret with half-indexing provides up to 24 tool positions, with all 12 capable of holding power tools for maximum flexibility.

The Y-axis provides +35/-40 mm of travel for true off-center machining, while the main axes offer 175 mm X-travel, 550 mm Z-travel, and 400 mm A-axis (sub-spindle) travel. Rapid traverse rates of 18 m/min on X, 24 m/min on Z, 10 m/min on Y, and 30 m/min on A keep non-cutting time minimal. The maximum turning length of 404 mm between spindles accommodates shaft-type work and longer components that smaller Takamaz models cannot handle.

Powered by a Fanuc 0i-TF Plus control, the XTL-8MYS handles multi-channel programming for synchronized main and sub-spindle operations. Live tools provide drilling and endmilling capability up to 20 mm diameter with M16 tapping capacity, handling the cross-drilling and milling operations that previously required a separate machining center. With an optional loader handling workpieces up to 75 mm diameter and 5 kg, the XTL-8MYS is a complete automated production cell for complex turned-and-milled parts.
