How much does the Monforts RNC 400 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Monforts RNC 400 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Monforts RNC 400 is the smallest lathe in the RNC series: a slant-bed CNC turning machine with 600 mm (23.6 in) of turning length, 420 mm (16.5 in) of swing over the bed and 280 mm (11.0 in) over the cross slide. Monforts builds it in three versions, SingleTurn, MultiTurn with driven tools and DuoTurn with a counter spindle, and supplies it with a Siemens or a Fanuc control.
Which control you pick changes the main drive. The table gives 23.7 kW (31.8 hp) at 100% ED with Siemens and 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) with Fanuc, and either way the spindle runs to 4,000 rpm. Torque is listed only for optional versions, 905 Nm (668 lb-ft) with Siemens and 974 Nm (718 lb-ft) with Fanuc, so ask which drive a quoted machine actually carries.
The spindle end is unusually open to choice for a lathe of this size. Standard is an A6 nose with a draw tube of 67 mm (2.6 in) inside diameter. A8 and A5 noses are optional versions, and so are draw tubes of 86 mm (3.4 in) and 45 mm (1.8 in). That one decision settles whether the machine is laid out for bar and tube stock through the spindle or for small chucked parts.
Tooling sits in a 12 x VDI 40 turret. Driven tools are an optional version, rated 12 kW (16.1 hp) with Siemens or 7.2 kW (9.7 hp) with Fanuc at 25% ED, and a Y-axis of ± 50 mm (2.0 in) can be added. The DuoTurn brings an A6 counter spindle with a 52 mm (2.0 in) draw tube and 22 kW (29.5 hp) at 100% ED. Monforts runs the Z-axis on a hydrostatic guide and quotes a spindle concentricity of approx. 0.003 mm.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Three versions on one frame: SingleTurn, MultiTurn with driven tools, and DuoTurn with a counter spindle
- Siemens main drive of 23.7 kW (31.8 hp) at 100% ED on a lathe with only 600 mm (23.6 in) of turning length
- Spindle nose can be A6, A8 or A5, with draw tubes of 67 mm (2.6 in), 86 mm (3.4 in) or 45 mm (1.8 in)
- DuoTurn counter spindle is rated 22 kW (29.5 hp) at 100% ED and 4,000 rpm, close to the main spindle
- Hydrostatic guide in the Z-axis and a stated spindle concentricity of approx. 0.003 mm
Limitations
- Swing over the cross slide is 280 mm (11.0 in), the smallest of the RNC series; the RNC 500 clears 425 mm (16.7 in)
- With Fanuc the driven tools are rated 7.2 kW (9.7 hp) at 25% ED, against 12 kW (16.1 hp) with Siemens
- Driven tools, the Y-axis and both torque figures are optional versions, not the base machine
- The Fanuc main drive is 18.5 kW (24.8 hp), lower than the 23.7 kW (31.8 hp) Siemens drive

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table gives 600 mm (23.6 in) of turning length, 420 mm (16.5 in) of swing over the bed and 280 mm (11.0 in) of swing over the cross slide. Monforts calls it the smallest machine in the RNC series. The next size up, the RNC 500, has 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of turning length.
02
Monforts describes the MultiTurn as the version with driven tools and the DuoTurn as the version with a counter spindle. The DuoTurn counter spindle has an A6 nose, a 52 mm (2.0 in) draw tube, 4,000 rpm and 22 kW (29.5 hp) at 100% ED, rising to 25 kW (33.5 hp) at 40% ED.
03
It depends on the control. With Siemens the main drive is 23.7 kW (31.8 hp) at 100% ED, with Fanuc 18.5 kW (24.8 hp). Both reach 4,000 rpm. The torque values of 905 Nm (668 lb-ft) with Siemens and 974 Nm (718 lb-ft) with Fanuc belong to optional versions.
04
Yes, as options. The turret holds 12 x VDI 40 tools and the optional version drives 12 of them at up to 4,000 rpm, with 12 kW (16.1 hp) on Siemens or 7.2 kW (9.7 hp) on Fanuc at 25% ED. A Y-axis of ± 50 mm (2.0 in) is optional as well.
05
A6 to DIN 55026 is standard, with a draw tube of 67 mm (2.6 in) inside diameter. The table lists A8 and A5 as optional versions, and draw tubes of 86 mm (3.4 in) and 45 mm (1.8 in). The product page separately quotes a spindle bore of 79 mm.
