Goodway GVF-1618

An 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) table load and 23,900 Nm (17,629 lb-ft) of torque make the Goodway GVF-1618 the heaviest-duty model of the fixed-beam GVF line below the 2,000 mm size. Its table measures 1,600 mm (63.0 in) and it turns 1,800 mm (70.9 in).

Goodway states that a 45 kW spindle motor and two-speed gearbox deliver up to 23,900 Nm in this series, and this is the smallest GVF that reaches the figure. The continuous motor rating is 37 kW (49.6 hp). Slewing rings, large gear blanks and turbine casings are typical of what the numbers support, and the maker lists shipbuilding, wind turbines, construction equipment and aerospace among the users.

The working envelope is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of swing, 1,750 mm (68.9 in) of X travel and 900 mm (35.4 in) of ram travel and turning height. Height is the limit to watch. A part of 1,800 mm diameter is often a low ring, and then 900 mm is ample; a tall housing of that diameter belongs on the moving-rail GV-1600, which turns 1,300 mm (51.2 in) high with the same load and torque.

The base and column are a single Meehanite casting with what Goodway calls optimized reinforcement ribs, and X and Z run on wide box ways. Sixteen BT50 tools are carried. The optional tooling spindle, 11 kW (14.8 hp) continuous at 1 ~ 2,400 rpm, has a high-reduction 2-speed gear box that the maker says tolerates long hours of low-speed, high-torque work.
