Overview

The Monforts RNC 700 is the largest lathe of the RNC series and the only one with two bed lengths: 1,000 mm (39.4 in) or 1,500 mm (59.1 in) of turning length. Swing over the bed is 720 mm (28.3 in), or 820 mm (32.3 in) as an optional version, and swing over the cross slide is 550 mm (21.7 in).

This is where the series changes character. The RNC 600 below it has an A8 nose, a 12 x VDI 40 turret and 28 kW (37.5 hp) with Siemens. The RNC 700 has an A11 spindle nose, a 12 x VDI 60 turret and a main drive of 37 kW (49.6 hp) at 100% ED with Siemens or 30 kW (40.2 hp) with Fanuc. Optional versions go to 58 kW (77.8 hp) and 60 kW (80.5 hp).

Torque is the real difference. The optional versions are listed at 3,199 Nm (2,360 lb-ft) with Siemens and 3,031 Nm (2,236 lb-ft) with Fanuc, more than three times the 905 Nm (668 lb-ft) quoted for the RNC 600 on Siemens. Monforts mentions a 4-speed gearbox on the product page. Standard spindle speed is 4,000 rpm, and Fanuc machines can be ordered in a 2,000 rpm version.

A draw tube of 86 mm (3.4 in) inside diameter is standard and 126 mm (5.0 in) is optional, which opens the machine to thick-walled tube and large bar. The MultiTurn adds 12 driven tools, and the optional Y-axis has ± 60 mm (2.4 in) of travel. There is no DuoTurn version. Tailstock and steady rest are options, so a shaft machine has to be specified as one.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Two turning lengths, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) or 1,500 mm (59.1 in), with 550 mm (21.7 in) of swing over the cross slide
  • Optional drive versions with 3,199 Nm (2,360 lb-ft) on Siemens or 3,031 Nm (2,236 lb-ft) on Fanuc
  • A11 spindle nose and a 12 x VDI 60 turret, a size up from the VDI 40 of the smaller RNC models

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How big is the Monforts RNC 700?

Turning length is 1,000 mm (39.4 in) or 1,500 mm (59.1 in). Swing over the bed is 720 mm (28.3 in), with 820 mm (32.3 in) as an optional version, and swing over the cross slide is 550 mm (21.7 in). Monforts calls it the largest machine in the RNC series.

02 What spindle power and torque does the RNC 700 offer?

At 100% ED the main drive is 37 kW (49.6 hp) with Siemens and 30 kW (40.2 hp) with Fanuc. Optional versions are 58 kW (77.8 hp) and 60 kW (80.5 hp). The listed maximum torque, 3,199 Nm (2,360 lb-ft) with Siemens and 3,031 Nm (2,236 lb-ft) with Fanuc, applies to optional versions.

03 How does the RNC 700 compare with the RNC 600?

The RNC 600 has one turning length of 1,000 mm (39.4 in), 505 mm (19.9 in) of swing over the cross slide and a 12 x VDI 40 turret. The RNC 700 adds a 1,500 mm (59.1 in) bed, 550 mm (21.7 in) over the cross slide, VDI 60 tooling, an A11 nose as standard and an optional Y-axis.

04 Does the RNC 700 have live tooling and a Y-axis?

Both are options. The 12 x VDI 60 turret can drive 12 tools at 12 kW (16.1 hp) with Siemens or 13.7 kW (18.4 hp) with Fanuc, 25% ED. Maximum driven tool speed is 3,200 rpm with Siemens and 4,000 rpm with Fanuc. The optional Y-axis travels ± 60 mm (2.4 in).

05 Which controls are available on the RNC 700?

Monforts offers the machine with a Fanuc or a Siemens control. The choice is not cosmetic: the main drive ratings, the torque figures and the maximum driven tool speed in the table all differ between the two, so compare the two columns before deciding.
