How much does the Fryer ET-16 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer ET-16 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Fryer ET-16 is the entry model of the Easy Turn toolroom lathes: 16 in (406 mm) of swing over the bed, 40 in (1,016 mm) between centers and a 2.05 in (52 mm) spindle bore on a Camlock D1-6 nose. It is a flat-bed CNC lathe with dual handles, built for a machinist who turns one shaft, cuts one thread or repairs one part at a time.
Among the four ET models this is the only one with a single gear range. The spindle runs 100 - 3,000 rpm on a 10 hp (7.5 kW) peak motor, where the ET-18 adds an auto-shifting low range. The result is the highest top speed in the series and the least low-end pull, which fits small-diameter work in bar and short shafts better than big, slow facing cuts.
Capacity figures are modest and worth reading closely. Swing over the cross slide is 8.125 in (206 mm), so that is the largest diameter that can pass over the carriage. X travel is 10 in (254 mm) and Z travel 37 in (940 mm). A part held only in the chuck may weigh 500 lb (227 kg); supported, 1,500 lb (680 kg). A 60 in (1,524 mm) center distance is an option and brings Z travel to 57 in (1,448 mm).
Fryer describes three ways to work: manual with the handles, semi-automatic with handle driven "Do One" cycles, and full CNC. Tooling is chosen from the options sheet, either a quick-change tool post for 1" tooling or an 8 station automatic turret for 3/4” tooling on this size. The bed is 14 in (356 mm) wide, with hardened and ground ways and Turcite B liners.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 3,000 rpm top speed, the highest of the ET toolroom lathes
- Manual, "Do One" semi-automatic and full CNC operation with dual handles
- Positioning accuracy of +/- 0.0002 in (0.0051 mm) and repeatability of +/- 0.0001 in (0.0025 mm)
- Compact: 86 x 74 in (2,184 x 1,880 mm) of floor and 5,000 lb (2,268 kg)
- Runs on 208-250 VAC three-phase at 35 A
Limitations
- Single gear range, so there is no low range for heavy cuts on large diameters
- Spindle bore is 2.05 in (52 mm), and no big bore option is listed for this model
- Supported part weight is 1,500 lb (680 kg), the lowest in the series
- Tool post or turret must be chosen from the options sheet; none appears in the base table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Swing over the bed is 16 in (406 mm) and swing over the cross slide is 8.125 in (206 mm). The standard distance between centers is 40 in (1,016 mm) with 37 in (940 mm) of Z travel; a 60 in (1,524 mm) center distance is optional. The spindle bore is 2.05 in (52 mm).
02
Fryer's table lists the ET-16 with a single gear range covering 100 - 3,000 rpm. The larger ET models are listed with auto shift between a low and a high range; the ET-18, for example, has a low range of 50 - 350 rpm and a high range of 350 - 2,500 rpm.
03
The options sheet lists a Dorian quick-change tool post for 1" tooling with a 5 piece tool holder set, and an 8 station bi-directional automatic turret for 3/4” tooling on the ET-16 and ET-18. The turret package includes 3 boring blocks with a 1.25" bore and flood coolant through the turret.
